does it struggle to start? does the engine start to die when you accelerate?

had that problem with my old da9, was told by a mechanic it was the fuel pump and had that changed but the problem remained

turned out to be that my ignition box was cracked, so all the current wasn't flowing properly

I bet you $100 it is your main fuel relay.

It happens to EVERY DA9 without fail. Re-solder it and you're good for years.

what does the main fuel relay do though?

exactly what it sounds like

its the main relay for the fuel system. pump etc

without it, the pump wont work, and thwe engine wont run. its probably not priming the fuel system prior to start up

hence why you needed to pour fuel down the throat

It runs for 0.8 seconds because the fuel pump has a valve to keep fuel pressure in the fuel rail after you turn it off. Without a running fuel pump (faulty main relay) you don't have fuel pressure for long :)
