1st, 2nd gear whining while decelerating

Hi Guys,

Seems like another problem has come up. lol

I'm hearing a whining noise while decelerating from either 1st or 2nd gear, more so in 1st. No brakes are being applied and the clutch is still engaged.

If i press in the clutch the whining dies down but still faintly present, once i shift out of gear then it stops.

Shifting into gears it still smooth. Recently changed MTF within last 10,000KM as well.

Also, don't know if this has anything too do with it, but when at full lock (stationary) i get a whining/grinding noise with vibrations throughout the cabin. Recently put in Cusco Strut and thought it could be the A/C lines rubbing against it, but i have foam in-between.

Headache. lol

It's not just the normal gearbox whine sound you get when your revs are high with no throttle I assume?

I don't think any of the rattling would be caused by the strut bar

Normal because of 1st and 2nd's short gear ratio. You'll hear it in reverse as well, except that it is much louder because of the straight cut gears.

Road test with Honda this morning, definitely some thing wrong with it. They reckon its either diff or some internal gearbox bearing. Getting really loud now, lol.

Just arrange time now to leave the car with them for a few days. :(

Bad luck. Keep us updated, it's interesting that it happens in only 1st and 2nd gear, which rules out the major bearings in the gearbox.

Yeah will do.

It happens in 3rd as well, but not so often and really faintly. More so when its jerky.

They are going to go through it and see. Just won't have a car for a while. :(

Alright, after three days at Honda, tranny out and opened they have given me an update.

One of the bearings is faulty and its fragments have caused damaged to the main shaft and diff.

It requires a rebuild and parts are on order from Japan, 2-3 weeks before i'm back on the road. :(

Trying to negotiate for a new tranny through customer relations, but doesn't seem they will bite.
