Just after some feedback. I've got BC spec 3 cams in my car running stock bottom end and quads...
Are these cams too big to hope for any decent fuel consumption?
Share your experience with aftermarket cams and fuel consumption please.

By reasonable fuel economy I mean 350km on an EG civic tank town, maybe 400 on the freeway?

depends who tune it last, should be able to get better economy than that
I was under the impression that they are 'small' cams as well. Those are the figures I am aiming for... I am not getting anywhere near that now!
Mainly freeway/off peak driving I might get 300km to the tank. Daily city-urban driving, I get around 260km. I've calculated my consumption is usually around 7km/L (or less), which equates to 14-15km/L. It's similar consumption to my dad's 260kw atw daily driven GTR, except he has a big enough fuel tank to handle it!
Get the tune looked at. I know im getting about 400km to a tank (standard dc5r tank) of mixed day to day driving which is half half street/urban driving and hwy driving, that is running Toda spec C's, 550cc injectors, walbro pump and high comp bottom end.
What ECU are you running?
Have you tried not shifting around the 8,000rpm mark?
Cause I found that to be my problem. I only manage about 280km from a EG tank.
But I mean it all works out cause you get to where ever you're going much faster.
got some spec3+ in my b18
get around the 10l/100km mark lately after being tuned
just minor ihe stuff, no quads
generally city driving, 4-5000rpm shift points in first and second gear and depending on whatever speed i need to be at generally shift through to fifth and just sit at the speed limit
I've been driving even more conservatively than vinnY with this car... Car has had lots of tuning done, but now i'm taking it in for specialist tuning. This thread was just to try and ensure that I'm not chasing something unobtainable (i.e. if the cam is not able to produce reasonable economy).
10L/100 km is good... I'll be happy with that!
If it had alot of tuning, then why does it need specialist tuning? :pQuote:

how much are you actually filling up at the pump?
you'd be surprised though, i've found with my car that light throttle and slightly higher rpm shifting points seems to get better fuel consumption than heavier throttle and lower shifting points(er only when the engine is up to temp though otherwise rpm's don't see over 3000rpm which is annoying with a 4.75fd box,)
