Rear bushes

Hey guys i just got a quote to do the rear bushes on my eg, and i just want to know if its easy to do urself, has anyone done there own bushes before and replaced them? Wat tools r needed? Also is it possible to just change the control arms or something?

not easy. you need a press to do it. Cost effective IF you intend to do it yourself , and say friends in future.

but , IMO just bend over , pay up and get it done. Its a once-in-10-years replacement.

Ok np, so u cant replace the arms that have bushes in them already?

to DIY - You can buy a cheap(ish) press from Supercheap - thats what I did - but then I spent a bit more replacing the jack with a higher quality one. I also had to replace bracings with stronger steel ones (easy - just go to a metal shop like ezi-steel and ask them to cut 'em for you). All in all, I spend about $200 ~ $250 on the tools but I have a tool that's proven useful more more than just pressing bushes...I now change my own bearings as well... :-D

Alternatively, there are a number of aftermarket control arms that you can buy that already have bushes in them. Looks bling...

Hmm this could be a good DIY thread dude....as ill be doing all my own bushings soon when i get them sorted. The supercheap press, did it work fine? enough to do the job?

More than enough...I just used this last week to swap the bushes on my wife's 2001 Civic. Easy Easy...

I wouldn't do that. The whole idea is the have NEW bushings isn't it? Not some 3 or maybe 5 or maybe 8 year old ones from the wrecker's yard.

for the cheap, quick and easy fix why not. If hes building it for performance etc then i guess buying better = better but if its an A to B car then one from a wrecker would be ok at the right price but if he charges more than $40 which they might then its not worth it.
