toda spec c cams on p72 head

Hi

does anyone know if spec C toda cams will be reliable for daily drive?

i got b18c7 on my eg, planning to put this p72 head on my b18 block

the p72 has been spec out to type r head and it's got all the aftermarket part fitted to it

and cams is toda spec c

now, the question are,

any postive or nagative if i run the p72 head on my stock b18c7 block and thin head gasket?

also would it be reliable to use it for street driving, mean no track work but maybe couple drag race on the track

any idea?

The spec C is a cam that has a lot of extra lift on the off vtec lobes as well as the vtec lobes; and lots of power all the way through. It particularly has extra at the top of the rev range. The spec B is probably a better choice as it has a better mid range which will suit your driving - the high end features of the spec C will be seldom used compared with the mid range on the street.

You will need an aftermarket ecu or add on to supply the fuel needed for the cam, and tuning time.

Expect fuel economy to take a big hit as the off vtec lobes are something like 2mm extra lift.

Personally I wouldn't bother changing up as the toda would be wasted 99% of the time for street use. Put the money into tyres and suspension - much better value for money and you play to the cars strengths.

as far as i know, toda b doesnt have better mid range compare to toda c, it is the same!! off vtec lobe of spec b and spec c is same. i might be wrong though
off vtec lobe for those, if i'm not wrong, is at 11mm, which is more than oem vtec lobe

Spec B, C, C2 & D share same low cam of 250deg @ 11.0mm valve lift & the low cam LCA remains the same also at 105deg.
When installed correctly the idle is smooth with large gains in low end / mid range power/torque from just above idle.

For a std bottom end B18C7, you'd be better off using the spec B camshafts & retaining your PR3 head & std intake manifold.
The P72 can be made to work & work really well, but chances are you, or someone else has already stuffed it up & you'll go backwards.
FWIW, the P72 cannot be spec-ed to Type R because it's P72. You need a PR3 for that, which you should already have.
Fit the cams & springs to your existing R head & put it back together. It will work better & you get t keep the R intake etc
The thin head gasket is also a bad idea

As for reliability, I am definately qualified to speak here as i have been running toda spec c's on my b16a for just under 2 and a half years... my car is driven every day!!! Not a single problem.. That extra low down power from the spec b and c toda cam really helps for everyday torque and driveablity...

As was said by adrian, Ideally for a b18 the toda spec b cam would probably be more suited... However a Toda spec c cam can work and can also work fairly well...

the idea of thin head gasket is just to boost up the compresion, just 2 cent,

Delsol9000rpms, were you b16 block stock? and what compresion rate you were running for the toda c's

i got the cams and spring and all the head done to the p72 head alreally, so what should i do now?, knok it down and redo it? wow money again,

hey Adrian, so the p72 cannot be speced to the same as the type r head, is that cos the intake is different? how about if running the skunk2 intake manifold? or it just both head is completely different?

the main reason why i am asking the toda c, i got the head done with all the work and parts, but will i destroy the cam or anyting from the engine if i use it for daily driving?

Im still running the standard b16a block untouched.... Its perfectly capable of holding up..

My compression is at roughly 10.8ish as the head has been skimmed like 20thou or so
