1989 Integra Fuel & Temp Gauge problem

I hope someone can help me here??

My daughter has a 1989 LS Integra manual car. As she is overseas, I have been driving it occasionally. Today, I took it to work and it was fine but later on I went out and the temp guage immeadiately went to a bit over half way. And the engine was COLD. I couldn't see anything wrong so I drove it and the guage then went as hard against the hot mark as it could go.

I stopped a couple of times and it was running fine. No sign of overheating at all so I just kept driving it.

I let it get stone cold when I got home then tried it again. Same thing.

Also, for a long time now, the fuel gauge will not show FULL when it is full. It goes up to two/thirds of the way and that's it.

Has anyone got some thoughts on the temp gauge problem and how to solve it?

temp guage sensor is like.. it sits sort've infront of the gearbox towards the front of the vehicle its a big plastic thing, with wires coming out of both endes its bit of a circle, if you've ever rattled the motor (clutch to fast etc) maybe fkd it up.

Probly fell out just rolling around hitting something thats heating up? or i dno sum shit lyk dat.

its like a CYLINDER shape. try find it. i dont have pics.

Then just cable tie it somewhere high up. away from anything.

Fuel guage, is a sensor issue. happen to me with the speedo..

Ahhh I had a very similar issue with my old DA9. The gauge kept showing overheating, but the engine was running at normal temp and was running fine. turns out it was because that brown/gold earthing wire that comes off the bottom right hand corner of the engines valve cover wasn't connected. it was causing all sorts of gauge issues and occasionally causing the check engine light to come on. Make sure all your earthing points are hooked up right! :D

DUDE. what are you talking about? if the sensor fell out there would be coolant everywhere and the engine would've overheated in a few minutues. and then zip tie it somewhere, are you kidding me :confused:

Here are the correct methods for testing both temp sensor, gauge, fuel gauge and fuel sender. For the fuel sender obviously don't remove the sender to test it. Fill the car up close to where you live and then check the resistance after only driving a few K's. I would also do as Super-DA9 has suggested. check your engine grounding points

"dude" what are YOU talking about .. my temp sensor fukd up .. no coolant anywhere. all i got was over heating.. reading.. like in ..5-10 minutes..

I guess there is more than 1 sensor? coz the one i had a problem with was not connected to the engine, so relax a bit yeh?

if it wasn't conencted to the engine what temp was it reading? i am relaxed

if it did fall out (highly unlikely) then there would be coolant every where...

it didnt fall out.. this sensor.. is not the same one u guys are talking about, AS I SAID before....

its originally bolted on somewhere else, not sure where it is suppose to be.. its like a little cylinder shape.. with a cord coming into it and out of it .. and no there was NO COOLANT anywhere for the final time.. if i could go back in time.. jst 2 take ap hoto 4 u guys.. i would but i cant..

well hey at least your engines not actually overheating eh? sensors/wiring are easily replaced but a damaged head gasket isn't ;) i'm sure you'll figure it out soon.
