major diff problem!
i know its been done before, but i need some advice on what to do...
ive never had an issue with the diff, even last week diff was fine, then last thursday a slight whine. noticeable in neutral but heaps louder under throttle. fri, sat, sun got worse, so monday i changed the diff oil and even put in an additive that the bloke at repco recommended to quiet it down.
It didnt change a thing, come tuesday a little louder and can even hear the teeth grinding agaised each other in speeds below 20k's, and today (wed) the whine has got so loud its actualy louder then the engine, and im am actually scared of it breaking and locking up while im driveing.
so question is sld i just drive it till it breaks, and get a new (second hand one) or take this one to a diff joint for em to check it out?
ive read a few guys here have had similar problems... did u get your old one rebuilt or got another one from wreckers?? if so where and any prices?? thanx.

I would of stopped driving when you first noticed it lol...
Time for a rebuild, take it to a diff place & get it inspected.
-
just get in inspected.. and just rebuild it if need be..
-
yeah thats the probably the right thing to do, but im in between changeing jobs and short on $$$ atm. has anyone had there diff rebult? any ideas on price?
-
i got quoted $2200 for a rebuild and that comes with a little civic courtasy car with a etag if need be. I havent done mine yet as mine has just started whinding and they were the cheapest and best i found. Im sure there are possibly places i dont know about but from who i called i felt they knew what they were on about. Apparently his son has a S2000, i dunno if this is a positive or a negative, as they might know what they are doing, yet, what ifhe decided to play with certain parts that he doesnt need 2 be.
Im not saying they are known for this, but it has happened in the mechanical industry, so dont blast me if you guys think i am mud slinging at hondworld.

while you're at it, change the final drive! 4.44 ftw!

Hey mate,
I just got mine rebuilt 2 weeks ago. They had to change two parts that could only be found from Honda, costing 1500 all up. The labour to uninstall, reinstall and have a diff specialist rebuild it added 1250 on top. And guess what? Im taking it in again for the same problem tomorrow!
My advice - get a whole knew diff.
-
good chance it could be your CV's rather then your diff id get it checked out immediately!
if your in sydney go to hannys, speak to robert or pip.
-
s2kjn... u payed $2750 for part and labour and still no good? whats wrong with it? do u have same syptoms as mine?
STAiN MASTER... its lowered on 20's, i broke 1 CV so repleced both of them bout 2000k's ago.
im in melb so any 1 dealt with diff places here?

s2on20 was your car advertised on the trading post a while back and was located at a place where the guy sells those pearl coloured lancers with body kits on the hume hwy not sure of the dealerships name
-
na mate i picked it up dec last year from sydney... it was a fun drive home lol
-
Mate get your diff checked out before buying another one, you dont even know whats the problem yet
Sounds like the diff though, its rare for a driveshaft to make a whining noise
My experience is diff rebuilders will never get i right even though they should
