hey man nothing to worry about :) its just the excess fuel.
all vtecs run rich when engaged onto HIGH CAM (VTEC).. its just the excess carbon buildup and excess fuel being shot out the tail pipe :)
generaly speaking
White smoke: WATER in the combustion chamber
Blue smoke: Oil in the combustion chamber
Black smoke: burning fuel/ carbon buildup...
basically when you tromp your foot on the accelerator, particals of carbon buildup will shoot out your exhaust and will generally land on the rear bumper around your exhaust.
as long as your car is running well dont worry about it
Ok, first you need to distinguish whether it is black or "light grey".
Because they both mean different things. Black is fuel (running rich) and it's ok for a tiny bit to come out at vtec's final stage, Light grey sounds more like "blue smoke" which is generally oil burning.
Lot's of 90's honda's tend to burn a little bit of oil at top RPM on full throttle. I mean 6000-8000RPM is pretty high strain lol.
Check like this, check your oil in the morning or when the car is cold, go for a spirited drive and hit vtec a few times, when you get back let the car sit until cold again, then check the oil again and see if it's lost any.
If it is losing oil at high RPM it's most likely one of two things:
• The oil you're using is too thick or too thin.
• The valve seals in the engine head are worn. (this happens to older cars after a while and is pretty much unavoidable)
Best of luck in solving this issue. :)
lol I think we posted at the same time haha
hahaha win
Thanks alot guys made me feel better cos i just bought the car like a week ago. Thanks again cheers.
Oh lol i got 2 more question,
1. when in vtec and changing from 2nd to 3rd my gears crunch as im putting it in third but only happens wen in high revs. Also wen in high revs and i change quickly, when putting my foot in the clutch i hear like a thud noise in the clutch, i think it might be my engine mounts but im not quite sure? So if u guys can let me know what to do or whats up with my car?
2. What gearbox oil should i use???
are you sure ur clutch is 100% in wen shifting?? coz if u go to shift and ur clutch isnt in it will crunch.. might have to evn change ur CMC fluid..
maybe you just need new gearbox oil.. gota recommend OEM honda oils only for gearbox, power steering and brake/clutch fluid.
if that doesnt fix it might be your 2nd to 3rd synchros
synchromesh is gone/going... means gearbox over haul... you could however try using a thicker oil.
I am i fond believer of Honda OEM oils... which you can purchase from your local Honda dealership.
If your a spirited driver, i recommend REDLINE LIGHTWEIGHT SHOCKPROOF...
PS: I use to own a swift gti turbo, and swift are renound for having absolutely shocking gearbox's and Redline lightweight shockproof got rid of my 1st to 2nd crunch... and also did the same for a few of my mates.
Reguarding the engine mount it would probably be your rear engine mount... easy way to check is to put your hand break on hard, get someone to watch the engine, then put car in first and release clutch and watch for engine movement.
lol i thought that came across a bit rude... sorry i didn't mean it like that...
