Hi guys,
I am curious as to what effects tire width has on a DC2R?
I know some came with 195 width and some with 205, some with 15" and some with 16".
Can someone tell me assuming all things equal (even tire make) what difference would there be while using the following tires:
1. 225-50-15
2. 205-55-15
3. 205-50-16

All those tires are larger than stock diameter and may cause issues with clearance to the guards along with affecting the accuracy of your speedometer and gearing. There will also be varying effects on handling with different tyre profiles having differing levels of compliance under cornering and acceleration loads, and also different tyre diameters will affect ride height and roll centre height to a minor degree. There is little reason to go for a larger diameter tyre unless that larger diameter brings with it a larger widtg, ie. using a 17" wheel with a 255 tyre might be worth it on a high powered track DC2 where the benefits of a larger and wider tyre outweigh the negatives.
They are all also not hugely common tyre sizes, why not go for the usual 205/50R15, 195/55R15 or 205/45R16? They are all relatively available, and are pretty close to stock diameter. It all depends on what size wheel you want to use and what sort of use?
i wouldnt put anything wider than 205 on seeing as oem wheels are only 6" wide
as said above, i wouldnt put anything higher then 205. if your car height is stock then it wont rub on the inside on full lock.
coz mine at the moment (195/55/15) rubs on the top of the wheel arches on full lock. imagine 225 :/

Thanks for the replies, but to be honest I was only wondering what effects there would be on corner grip and traction (as well as launch grip).
It's a hypothetical question and really I was wondering whether going a wider tire and/or a higher profile would have positive/negative effects
well 225's will stick the best for a launch. but say if you get some stockies off a ford falcon (same stud pattern as dc2r 5 X 114.3)
and if you put semi slicks lyk TOYO R888 then there could be too much grip and you can brake your drive shafts
So wider is better, for grip at least?
I didn't realize driveshafts were a weak point.
What sort of 60ft times would 225 R888 manage to pull?
wouldnt have a clue.
but i pulled a 2.1 60ft on TOYO R1R 195/55/15 with my stock dc2r (had just a poddy slaped on for sound). and the R1R is the tire below the R888.
What was your ET out of curiosity?
And what is your opinion on the R1R?

for $180 per corner theyre good. alot better then the bridgestone potenza re001 IMO
