Can a manual civic tow a Jet Ski up a boat ramp?

Hi Gents,

I was about to buy a civic (probably VTI-R) but I have no clue if the car has enough grunt to tow a jet ski up a boat ramp. I'm sure it can pull a jet ski on a flat road, but what about up a hill or up a boat ramp?

yeah but up a ramp? depends how steep it is i guess?

They arent the greatest thing for torque, and especially front wheel drive on a (usually) damp boat ramp with all the weight on the back of it you might run into to some wheelspin issues. only one way to find out really :p

i personally wouldnt. Thats a big ask for your transmission and clutch (if manual). Your clutch would not last long if this is done repeatedly

yes - remember the vtir only makes a touch more torque than a d16 powered civic. Still gutless for towing !

I wouldn't want to be using a Civic to tow anything, the tranny will get wanked pretty fast

I once towed a car trailer back when I still had my D15 in my sedan.... it was a struggle up hills...

Even if it the engine has enough torque, towing weight on a steep boat ramp for a FWD can be risky. If your wheels start to slip on a wet boat ramp, hello ocean.

If you do try it, make sure someone is filming it for ozhonda enjoyment.

Personally I wouldn't tow much with any car less than 2L minimum unless it's a grunty diesel. If you wanna tow cheaply I'd grab a 90's commo/falcon. 3.8 or 4.0L 6cyl + RWD. Much better off.

imagine your front tire is wet and spin,then the civic pull into ocean lol

unless you wanna use wheel chocks and keep repeatedly getting out of the car and putting them behind your back wheels (or get a mate to do it).. then ride your clutch til the cows come home. dont do eeeet
