Does Manufacturer or Stat Warranty cover previously repaired work?

Hi Guys,

[not sure if this is the right section for this]

I found out after buying a MY11 fn2 that the driver side wing-mirror does not fold.
After taking it to Trivett Honda to get them to repair it (car is still covered under manufacturers warranty), they told me it had been previously repaired and therefore not covered under warranty.

Is that true? or should I be chasing up Honda Australia, I know how dealers love to get out of these warranty claims.
Also, since I bought the car used from another dealer, would it be covered under used car statutory warranty?

I would take it back to the dealer I bought it from. Is it still under warranty there? Or not?

Yeh, still under the 3 month warranty. I've followed up with him, just waiting on him to get back to me.

Does the FN2 come with electric folding mirrors or is this manual folding?

Make sure he actually gets back to you cause dealers will try drag it out.
You must be persistent about warranty claims.

Update! The used car dealer I bought from has agreed to repair the mirror under the 3 month statutory warranty.

He said that he would look for a 2nd hand part and if he could not find one, we would split the difference on a new part.
Initially, I thought he was trying to be dodgy, but after reading the rules and regulations around stat warranty it turns out he was correct.


"A motor dealer is obliged to repair or make good any defect existing in the vehicle at the time of sale or occurring within the warranty period so as to place the vehicle in a reasonable condition having regard to its age. Repairs must be undertaken with due care and skill and within a reasonable time, having regard to the availability of parts or specialist services. Where suitable, and provided safety is not compromised, second hand parts may be used in repairs.

At all times it should be remembered that a dealer’s obligation is defined in Section 27 of the Act, but in general terms the motor vehicle and all accessories fitted at the time of sale are included in the warranty.

Note: The dealer is obligated to repair a vehicle with parts consistent with the age and mileage of the vehicle. If the customer requires new parts then he may negotiate to pay the difference in the value of the parts."
