Hey guys,
I have a base-model DC5 that needs new shock absorbers. I've asked around a few suspension places and they all recommend genuine honda shocks. The car is un-modded and I intend to keep it that way.
I'm looking at getting parts from oemacuraparts.com, shipped via hopshopgo. I'm just not sure whether the US shocks will be the right way around or not. What do you guys reckon?
Part numbers I'm looking at are 51606-S6M-A06 (front left) and 51605-S6M-A06 (front right).

How much are those going to set you back?
For the price of new shocks I'd just buy aftermarket parts if I were you. Curtis is right. Bilstein are my favourite - I run them in both of my cars. Koni is also quite awesome.
Why replace a shagged part with something the same when you could upgrade to something for less/the same coin?
Dunno, maybe go to a wreck op, see what they got, might be able to get a bargain, though you won't really know what condition they're in.
You try Busons for non-genuine oem replacement?
I can understand you wanting to keep it standard.
The reason I'm looking at the Acura RSX parts, is all four shocks come to about the same price as one genuine from Honda Australia.
I appreciate some aftermarket parts might produce some better handling, but these shocks have lasted 250,000km, so I figure the same parts again should outlast the car.
So there's really two things I'm a bit concerned about - whether the US market shocks will be rated differently to the Australia market version, and whether the left-or-right handedness of the car makes a difference to the shock mounts.
I don't really want to get second hand shocks from the wrecker - its difficult to know what condition they're in.
This is why i suggested koni/bilstein, they are built to take a lot of abuse
Don't worry, Bilstein make their shocks for a variety of Euro manufacturers and some top end JDM manufacturers [Mitsubishi, Nissan, Mazda, etc] while Koni also/did make for some manufacturers iirc.
RE US Shocks, it is very possible that the shocks are recalibrated to take in the differences in weight distribution due to orientation etc.
Yep I'm now thinking the Acura RSX shocks will not be suitable. The part numbers for the Australian versions are completely different too:

Do you happen to have the part numbers for the Bilstein shocks?
nobody here would know it off the bat (because most people here are into lowering), but if you call any suspension shop they will have a catalogue and be able to tell you/quote you with the part numbers

They're an authorised dealer for Bilstein and stock replacement parts/rebuild worn shocks. They should be able to point you in the right direction.
