[CL9] Electric seat front edge not rising or lowering

Having an issue with the driver side electric seat. It does not rise or lower when the side button is activated. I can hear the motor going, but it sounds like it's not catching on (if you know what I mean??). If I give it a gentle pull up when I am raising it, it will then actually go up on it's own and when the seat reaches it's peak, the motor doesn't stop like it's supposed to - it just keeps going. When I then sit on the seat or put weight on it, it just falls all the way back to the lowest point. The same (opposite) thing happens when I lower it.

I've researched on how to remove the seat (loosen 4 bolts, disconnect battery, disconnect electrical harness), but I would like a bit of guidance in what to look for once the seat is out.

Any help is greatly appreciated... at the moment, my Mrs is driving with a big cushion under her bum so that she can see over the steering wheel lolz
