Just a quick question guys, Honda is telling me to also do my timing belt cos the car is five years old (2000 EK1), they're concerned the rubber belt may be deteriorating still. Anyways, the service is already costing me over $600 (auto) so can't really afford the extra at the moment, should I just get it checked for the time being and get a report on its condition? What's an auto B16 front cut worth, haha..... :D
Haha mate I know this may be hard to hear, but you probably just should pay for the belt, it cant be THAT much more can it? What does an NRMA call out cost compared to the cost of a belt?..... you catch my drift?
probably would be wise to do the timing belt, but if your thinking of doing a conversion in the next...say 5-6months then i would hold off on it.
It’s a risk to keep driving without changing the belt. I’m doing my 100,000 service this week. My car is 7 years old but I only just bought my car and was surprised it wasn’t changed.
If you can’t afford it this service, do it as soon as you can afford it. I don’t think Honda’s have zero interference head designs (possibility of bent valves if you don’t change it) and don’t forget to change the water pump at the same time.

I had my timing belt changed (which was recommended) at 100,000kms. I was told by Honda itself that it would be required to be changed at 100,000kms. So personally I don't know why they have told you otherwise..
That's another thing, dunno if he's just trying to scam some more money outta me or if its legit, I've never heard of a timing belt letting go at such low kms..

The book states 5 years or 100,000kms. The Rubber belt ages and decays. It’s a risk to take and it’s not recommended that you do wait more than 5 years but “it could last”.
The pump should be changed as if it does fail you will be up for the same labour cost of changing the timing belt again.
It may be a scam.. but first check how long you have had the car for, then consider the kilometres.. if they say you still need to change your timing belt, tell them to stick it and go somewhere else in my opinion hehe
yeh its only due because you dont do that much milage. its normally either 80-100 000kms or 5 years which ever comes first. i recommend changing it i know its expensive however its better to know that it is safe for the next 5 years or 100 000kms besides the sooner you change it the better. it is better to do the water pump too as if it blows soon you will have to take the timing belt off again to get to it thus making a huge difference of the expence of the labour
