my exhaust pipe

hey guys, i have a 94 honda civic sedan vti
when i bought the car, it came with a 2.5" pipe underneath. the exhaust is loud, i tried changing the muffler to a more quieter one, but after a month, it started sounding crap, thers a annoying sound after a few weeks which that starts to make a flapping noise when accelerating and even on idle.

the 2.5 inch pipe is from the muffler to the cat converter, i can see the old stock pipe which is then welding on to the 2.5".
is the stock pipe is 2.25".

cause im thinking to changing the pipe back to stock size, should i buy a used honda civic pipe from a wrecker or go to a exhaust shop and buy a new 2.25" pipe and muffler, can u guys give me advice to what should i ask the shop, cause me might give me a crappy pipe which starts to make holes quickly.

when in the car, u can feel the vibrations of the pipe, and i just dont want any exhaust sporty sound anymore, especially when my car is auto.
i know that the headers of the car is stock. if i do change the pipe back to the normal size, will the exhaust sound be back to the stock level.

please anyone, cause im really gettiing fed up of the noise my muffler makes.

can some one tell me how to post an audio clip of the sound of my exhaust on idle and when reving it,

my previous muffler had the same sound, its not quite the same real life but has the annoying and embarrasing sound, i just close me windows cause i can hear it in the drivers seat.

is it cause the mufflers (they are just ordinary mufflers) with a tip, a pointy tip, not one with a curve at the end

is there any one here from melbourne, knowing any good muffler places around the broadmeadows, coburg, campbellfield area, any where near these suburbs,

and does any one have an idea hwo much for a 2.25" pipe is,

i dont think stock piping is 2.25" on a civic. more like 1.75 - 2"

mine started changing notes as a bit they welded had fallen off and made a hole

yeah, i asked a shop and he said that the pipe is 1.78" and its gonna cost me $360,

my car is a vti (d16 sohc vtec) does the pipe differ from gli versions.

on a different forum, some one said id lose power abit, but would i be noticable, i dont really care about performance, im gonna get a HRV after this (within a year). my car is a auto, and i get on a full tank of gas, around 300k distance, i should be getting more than that should i , is it cause of the 2.5" pipe.

i'll check if theres a hole, cause it did start soundign crap in like 3-4 weeks. would a normal muffler stuff up cause of a 2.5" pipe. is there any way the muffler cant handle the pipe or anything,

IMO, the pipe (mild steel) should not be more than $100.

r u serious, what is mild steel, is that what i should get, i dont want perforomance, i want economy and quietness cause i take long trips with my car and i use my car alot, for work and personal use.

can any one tell me if i go back to the stock size, will it help me my fuel. especially with prices of fuel now.

a 2: section of pipe from the cat to to the muffler shouldnt cost more then 200 installed imo. get something crush bent.

getting a twin loop muffler of egSi (in the traders forum) will really quiten your exhaust keeping the stock piping.

also reducing the size of the piping should also remove some noise....
i paid about $300 for stainless steel mandrel bent exhaust piping installed.
mild steel with crush/press bends should be much less.

mild steel is much cheaper, but doesnt look as shiny and doesnt usually last as long (still would last more than 5 years).

Pressure bending is when a tube is placed into a die and a hydraulic ram, which has the other half of the die--or the shoe--is then pressed together to push the tube around the radius. Nothing is inside the tube to prevent the tube from collapsing or buckling, and the machine is completely manual--the operator indexes the pipe by hand according to an angle gauge in the end of the pipe. Not a very precise method of bending, but quick and inexpensive.

Mandrel bending is when a set of balls, called a mandrel, is inserted into the pipe during bending. These balls are positioned and pulled through the pipe so that the bends are not deformed and maintain a close-to-perfect shape throughout the length of the bend. The pros are that the tube can be bent on a much tighter radius and still flow well due to the pipe being round and not collapsed. The [cons are that] machinery is expensive for a good-quality CNC mandrel bender with the appropriate tooling.

So for a quieter exhaust but with the performance kept same, buy the twin loop from egSi

for stock exhaust levels, get "a 1.78" mild steel press bent piping"

i'll prob go for ur last option, get the stock exhaust levels and get 1.78" mild steel press bent piping.

i'll ask another exhaust shop. im gonna keep the car for another year or so, so the cheaper the better, as long as the sound levels go back to stock or very close.

one guy said that even if u changed ur piping back to stock, i wont get the same sound level unless i get teh stock exhaust. is this true, cause the muffler i have on is a berkley. it looks quite long, the tip is where the end of my bumperbar is, and it reaches around my rear brakes, so its quite a long muffler,
will i be able to use my berkley muffler, cause the prob, with it also is, that, u can here a a noise like the air is hitting sumthing inside which makes a noise, u can here is on normal cars, usually a low flapping noise, especially when they turn the engine off,

well the noise is louder and happens when on idle and accelerating to around 60 kph

DOnt say stock. Just say u want 2" Mild steel crush bent. SIMPLE.
