Optimax is very rare in Adelaide, only BP and Mobil offer 98 ron. Shell pulp is otherwise 95 here and I'm in the habit of using only 98 ron so I don't miss out on any power.
I've tried BP Ultimate, Vortex Gold and Optimax and rank them in that order. As for 95 RON premiums just not as smooth as the 98s. I get an extra 0.5ltr fuel economy with the 98s.
For the power difference 95 to 98 to be noticable the difference must be at least 10%.
Having gone from using 80 litres of fuel a week (almost 1 tank on 6 cyc AU ute) to 35 litres (Jazz almost 1 tank) to travel the same distance the cost difference per litre is negligible to me. When you have to drive 550km a week around Syndey I'd rather spend the little extra and enjoy it a whole lot more.
There wont be any diffrences in performance - on a Jazz - with higher octane fuel. Higher octane prevents knock when compression is raised - it serves no function performance wise.
Australian high octane fuels are higher density resulting in improved fuel economy and have added detergents that keep engine parts clean, providing smoother engine performance and lower fuel consumption.
A sophisticated knock sensor (currently found on some high-performance and luxury models) actively tunes your engine (for example, spark plug timing) to the maximum possible setting before it starts to sense knock. It can therefore take advantage of the higher octane rating, and actually increase the power output of your car.
So its not just the RON rating alone in premium fuels that make a difference.
Regular unleaded fuel in Japan is a minimum 95 RON. The Australian Jazz is made in Japan not Thailand or mainland China (like the future European Jazzes) and hence designed from the ground up for at least 95 RON fuel.
In fact Australia was one of the only countries outside Japan to get the VTEC Jazz at launch. Due the the small size of the Australian market and the the very special relationship Honda Japan has with Australia we often get some good things like the batch of real Type R Integras at the end of life of the last model. Australia is used for product testing due to the space and harsh and varied climate. I remember watching a promotional video at one of the large Honda bike factories (bigger than 400ccs) in Japan and realising that the scenery was Australian gum trees.

i run BP ultimate, on shell the car is a bit jerky when caining it and vtec comes on bit rough, sometimes even late, bit like when the engine is cold vtec wont engage

I was told that the ECU was most efficient on RON91 fuel... Am I wrong?
I am using RON98.. Not for Performance wise.. but for cleanliness wise (I hope)..
Also, a 10ml of ACETONE would help....
cos auto 100% depends on transmission... u can really feel the response.... whereas with manual, ur clutch helps a lot.... ask cash to try then.... he ll feel the difference.... plus i believe even with ur car u will feel when u rev hard or drive fast... engine feels heavyQuote:
