WTFs with the gen3 intake (& idea)

my mate has a gen3 lude (i think) 1990 model anyway, and its got possibly the most messed up intake setup but we where thinking moving the battery to the boot and running a peice of aluminium pipe from the TB up to where the battery was and having a unifilter in the place of the battery and sheilding the heat from the engine bay with a sheet of aluminium (custom).

would this defeat the purpose of the original induction setup, is there somthing special about the retarted setup thats on there originally.
