How come Honda's only have 3 engine mounts?
They don't have an engine mount right in front of the engine like other FWD cars??
Is it by any chance due to the engine rotating in a different direction to normal?

thers only 3 coz they knew that all the honda ppl would be pissed off with the cars wiht this shit engines in and they knew we would wanna do an engine swap, so they made it easy for us ;)
yes our motors are compared to most cars on the other side of the engine bay the right! Most other companies have there motors on the left. Also there are hondas with more than 3 engine mounts
hardly a technical response man...this is the "technical " discussion for serious chit-chat thanks :)Quote:

Anyway , not all hondas come with 3 engine mounts - my honda civic has 5...and earlier civics came with another front mount too -
Prelude has the mount at the front that you talk of too.
There are 5 mounts on 'most' EG/EK civic and DC integras.
Two on the timing belt side (upper and lower), Two on the transmission (upper and lower) and one (tortion) mount at the rear.
the *reason* you may not have noticed the 'front' mount some other FWD cars *may* have is so in the case of a front ender - the mount has less chance to damage the engien,
just FYI - my 98 integra has 5 engine mounts, (as do all from 94-01)
also FYI - my LS Integra had a front mount (89-92)
my SiR has 5 from what i counted when i replaced my oil oil filter and the sump plug
Mine has 5 too...
How come they don't have the front ones though
My car (lancer) has 4 that I can see, and one of them is at the front, as I have like I beam from the crossmember that goes to the front of the car
I thought it was odd that my friends Civic EG didn't have this?

Due to the inertial forces of the engine, when looking at the timing belt cover, under load the engine will rock in a clockwise motion, hence putting strain on the engine mount at the back. This mount stops the intake manifold from hitting the firewall.
As most other FWD non-Honda's have the engine on the Drivers side, they require an engine mount(actually refered to as an engine steady) to stop the exhaust manifold from hitting the radiator/radiator fans(which would get messy)
So for all of you that have 5 mounts, the question relates to the absence of an engine mount between your radiator and gearbox. I know my ED Civic has one but as Honda spent a lot of time making better engine mounts, this mount has been made redundant.
Does anyone know how many mounts are on a DC5 Integra??
