Fitting a fire extinguisher

Looking to fit a fire extinguisher in my hatch and was just wondering where others have fitted them. I was originally thinking of putting it in the passengers side footwell - but in the case of a frontal accident it would be fairly dangerous for any passengers.

Another thought is mounting it in the rear passengers footwell (as it is still in a reachable distance for the driver) behind where the passengers legs would go?

Also, while the extinguisher itself has a bracket has anyone made/purchased a bracket that attaches on one side to the car and on the otherside to the extinguisher bracket?

By the way, those pics are from a two seater car so mounting a bracket as part of the seat is not really an option.

Hey ZdSter, I used to have it fitted on the right hand side of the front passenger side next to the center console, I think that location is accessible easily..

The other alternative would be the boot but... mmmmm having to get out of the car to get it...

Not so sure about putting it on the rear passenger footwell as shown in the photos.. takes up too much legroom especially for a 2 door.....

i'm interested in knowing what type to get, or whats recommended

I've always toyed with the idea of using a CO2 fire extinguished to house the Laughing Juice....

As I said, the only problem that I can see is that if you are in a head on accident and have a passenger in the car that it is likely to seriously hurt them.

The spot that I was thinking about (in my hatch that is) is just below the base of the rear passenger seat. As the extinguisher is not that big a rear passengers legs would clear it and it does not interfer with getting in or out of the car.

My only real thoughts are how to mount it - thought that there might be some sort of bracket or something on the market???

I know that bunnings sell them (I think they also sell CAM approved ones) or you could try a local car shop (like autobarn etc).

Sure would be a different way of doing it!

1st of what are you looking to use this for. Are you going to car fires to put them out or is this for your car? Like if you hit a wall and burst into flames? If it's just for you then a suppression system would more than likely be a more permanat setup. Not one to take out. If you need one to pull out then a K-mart special will do. They all have to meet your countries safety standards. I would put it in the trunk whether it’s the permanat or removable kind. If you are hit in the rear the chances of there being a fire is less than being hit in the front. Look at these and then decide. Once you find one that works you can look more local and see what you can get.

can they explode in the extreem heat inside your car, or they are designed to withstand the extra pressure?

The thing that I didnt like about putting it in the trunk is that if you need it in a hurry (and when something is on fire you tend to be in a hurry) it takes longer to get to.

Just for the visualisation, the red arrow in the follow pic is where I was thinking of mounting it (yes it is an eg but it is just to get the idea):

I was thinking of making some sort of braket that is held in place using the rear seat mounting hole(s). What do you all think?

We put them in cars where the track is at 150+ degrees on a nice day and the car is hotter. I bet they can handle the heat!

If you are going to just put one in the car get one from a dealer that can help you choose the right one to get. Make sure you get the right chemical too.

my one is mounted on the floor just in flont of the passenger seat, it never gets in the way, and its easily accessable

Do you have any pics of it? How did you attach it - just bolted to the floor or some sort of bracket?
