hey, peeps..
well i had a d16a8 si motor in my 92 civic and then it screwd up.
i ended up changing my motor and i replaced it with a ZC from another civic
i am still runing the stock SI ecu i was wondering if it made a diffrence?..
it has said that Zc's are quick i dont see sh*t.. btw i am running custom cold air intake, cat back to muffler and a HD clutch somone help?
is it holding back some power? because i am runing the stock si ecu?

What is the new engine stamped, D16A8 as well?
The 130hp D16A8 is basically a ZC but tuned for Aussie fuel. The real 137hp ZC's are only JDM so I doubt you have a 'real' ZC.
If the engine is from an Aussie Si then its a D16A8 just like your old one.
But if the new engine is stamped ZC, then its another story ;)
an ECU from an actual JDM ZC will make a difference as they are tuned differently due to higher octane fuel in Japan. The ZC also has 0.1 higher compression due to domed pistons. however, its hard to find JDM OBD1 ZC ecu's. its not really an issue using a D16A8 ecu, especially once you begin to modify the engine. its not really something to worry about.
if you're really concerned about it the difference could be more than corrected with a SAFC and some dizzy advancement lol
theres no reason it couldnt be an actual JDM ZC (most B16 swaps are JDM, yet they're everywhere) as they are common in Japan where most honda wreckers get their stock. I've got a JDM ZC in my car. Its hardly "another story" though. not much diff really
nah theres no stamp of the word ZC on the block due to the fact was somthing was dodgey at the importing place if u know what i mean..
well charlie from gpc told me it's a ZC
i wanna get the most outta this engine. because i am soon to add a toda fly wheel and extractors.. so i just want to know how i can do this by either getting a new ecu.. retuning mine (how much roughly?) or just advancing the car.. but thats not really safe to do..
edit it is stamped D16a8 but its not from auzzie.. its an import motor
and i thought the ZC has more aggressive cams?
D16A8 has 124HP (its a detuned ZC with lower compression by 0.1 and a CAT)Quote:

Running a D16A8 with a ZC ECU will give small gains due to better fuel maps
Running a ZC with a D16A8 ECU will be worse off as per above.
so what should i do? get a ZC ecu or can i retune my si ecu to the zc fuel / air thingo?
roughly how much is it to tune?
and will after i tune the ecu get a light flywheel. and extractors how many sec's down the 1/4 mile would i b looking at?
i seriously dont know if i should build a non vtec car or just do a b16\b18 conversion( gonna b a while if i do due to lack of funds)
im not exactly sure that you can tune the stock ECU - you'd have to flash the Eprom and then tune it - probably easier and cheaper just to get a stand alone or like you said get the ZC ECU and then run a piggy back off it like SAFC. VAFC. Emanage. Hondata (but this one requires a bit more than just plug and play)
1/4 mile isn't purely based on the cars HP. its the way you drive that has alot to do with the time. I'd say on a stockish crx you'd be looking around the 16 second mark - maybe high 15s - but don't hold that as gospel - depends as I said.
Few of Us guys here in WA are doing up D16A8/ZC motors - cams, cam gears, intake, exhaust, compression ratios etc... so there is life in the old D series still.
what rpm do you shift at?. cause my car is supposed to go up to 7200rpm it stops at 7 how do i remove the limiter or raise it..
raising the limiter is not a good thing to do unless you strengthen the engine more (rods, crank, valves etc)... leads to more stress on motor
plus after 7k rpm it prolly wouldn't make much more gain... most of your power would be between 4k- 6k rpm...
can't help you on the ECU issue though mate... sorry
u be looking at 16's 1/4, IMa got some cams for ZC/D16a8 for sale if ur interested, 20hp gain and extend rev range to 8k if tuned rite. And got set of quad throttle body too. (need good ecu to run)
