okay everybody...
i'm just curious here please don't flame me as i am lost as to what i should be thinking...
how long does a normal rebuild take with standard parts, most things replaced?
anybody out there got any help of information for me would be greatly appreciated, ta

took me and my mech a weekend including a stripdown of the block... pull apart and back together... ASSUMING you had all the parts required like new gaskets and stuff already...
A basic rebuild would be a good cleaning, all new seals, gaskets, piston rings, and bearings. Should take 1 day. If you want a detailed cleaning, rehone, polised crank shaft, decked block and head, and the basic rebuild, that would take about a week depending on whether or not that shop has all the machines. A full rebuild will take longer, about 3-4 weeks. That includes all new or rebuilt internals, head and valve train, media blasting the head and block, head work, bore the block if needed, honing, decking, balancing rotating mass, and some more stuff depending on the shop. Of course all those time estimate are if the parts are already in your hands except the full rebuild. Strip down is about 2hrs, cleaning is about 2-9 hrs depending on how bad it is and whether or not we media blast it, machining is 1-2 days, rebuilding is 5-8 hrs. Waiting on parts and other shops is what takes time!
I rebuilt my h22 over christmas. I did not touch the vavles as they were ok. It took me about 5days from start to finnish that was with having most of the major components. It takes time when you have to get the head machines and those sort of things. The rebuild cost me around $900AUD that was all new gaskets, seals, rings and bearings, as well as getting the head machined and the block cleaned and honed. If you want to rebuild the head ie do the valves thats when the money adds up, last time i looked you can not get the valve stem guides and seals after market and you are looking at $16-$20 per guide for genuen, now when there is 24 of them thats a lot of money. Just make sure when you put it back together that everthing is clean if you want your engine to last you.

just getting my car back a week and a half after the parts came and don't know how much it would cost as it is a good family fried taking care of the work (mechanic is like dad's little brother)
