new whine from engine
hey people,
the Prelude has recently had it's 100,000k service so had a new timing belt fitted.
The guy who did it is a honda specialist, and he said he "tuned it up a little"
Now it definately feels slightly more responsive in the lower rev's and it's got a whine now (like a gilmer/supercharger)
Just wondering what could have possibly been done to cause this?

or even a over tightened belt.
-
Check the adjuster pully. May be too tight or too loose.
-
Does this happen in all gears?

rev-tech ur gona get a million diferant ideas what it could be on here and even with all of them theres still a chance no1 could get newhere near what the problem is cause most ppl arent mechanics and even if every1 reply was a quallified mechanic that had do nothin but work on prelude of exaclt the same model and setup of urs their not there to see and hear it for them selves.......bottom line man jsut take it back to the guy ans ask him.....and if you dont trust him take it sumwhere else and see what they have to say

i was with a friend test driving a 4th gen vti-r which had its timing belt changed recently and it had a similar whine, i think its normal...hopefully :P
-
most common cause is an overtightened belt, but as said, take it back to the bloke and get him to have a look

hey mine whine tooo....i have trace the whinning sound out..its at somewhere around the manifold area where it whine the loudest...which part of ur engine whine???
-
hey guys, thanks for the replies.
mattsama, yeah it happens in all gears, it's related to rev's, the higher rev's the higher pitch the whine.
hurstyboy, the guy who worked on it lives next door to my mum and is a honda specialist. Will have to ask him next time i'm over there :)

gosh if u the higher u rev the higher it whines it could be the gasket
