converting from carbs to injection

Hi, I'm a honda virgin, so you've gotta bare with me... I have an '89 D15B4 carb motor from a Civic wagon, I'd like to put injection on it.

[T][L] has these parts for sale, and I'd like to know if they'll suit my motor, as I have no idea!

D-Series parts:
- D16A injectors + harness + rail
- D16A Dizzy
- PM7 ECU
- D16A obd0 engine harness
- D16A throttle body

would all of these be what I need to inject my motor?

if these parts won't suit, what car/engine is the best source for them?

You would also need an intake manifold for the injectors to sit in and the rail to bolt to. Also sensors, Idle control valve, fuel pressure regulator for the rail, the prerail pressure relief valve, and all new seals and gaskets. But as far as I can tell that is all you need. Might be more and you might have some of this already. I would get together with a tech and see.

well b4 u go buy all those things firstly
is your car carby or EFi from factory?
if it's carby then it is important to convert your car to EFi first rather than getting all those parts
and to be honest with u wuth injecting your motor..
with the money spent getting all those parts
u can probably pick up a later model EFi engien such as a D16a/D16y/D15 for a cheaper price..

hmm, I see your point - it's a factory carb motor, I just need to make sure any other motor I get will bolt up to my bellhousing/gearbox as it's the AWD model, and it needs to stay that way - I just don't know enough about these things yet :o

thanks slow96gsr - danny is probably right that sourcing those parts as well, with the risk of stuff not fitting - it's probably the same cost as sourcing an already injected motor

1) Need an EFI fuel tank or modify the fuel tank to suit.

2) Buy a full EFI motor, wiring loom and a heavy Duty clutch kit(to handle extra power/torque) and also to enjoy the better designed engines. Your current engine still has a mechanical fuel pump in the head which will be a pain to get rid of.

3) I believe all the D series blocks use the same bellhousing.

I did the EFI conversion on a 1990 Honda Civic hatch and as you use the existing gearbox, there should be no reason why you cannot keep the 4WD system.

id suggest from experience dont bother getting a regular engine and get a full half cut save you alot of time and you will knoe u get everything u need ;D

may cost alot at the start but its well worth it afteer the time u save, trying to get all the small things you may miss ;D

edit : saw you aint buying a new engine, you just gna put EFI on it? hmm dont think that can happen with a carby

I wouldnt bother EFIing a carby engine

it will be cheper fot you to pick up a used engine with all the goodies on it

going price for a D15B7 is about 200 buxks I recon, I saw one advertised for $50 on here a while ago

yeah - thanks guys... I reckon you're all right - I might get bennjamin's d14a8 halfcut - it'll save me a lot of headaches

where's a good list of all the D engine series configurations - where I can see what motors have what features - vtec, sohc, dohc, carb, injection etc. etc.

if there isn't a good list, what's the difference between a D16a8 and a D16a9 ?

well if ur going to get EFI you might as well listen to everyone n get an already efi'd motor
heres a little list:
type R/ k20a - twin cam - vtec
vtir / h22a - twin cam - vtec
vtir | type R / b18c/b18c7 = twin cam - vtec
sir / b16a= twin cam - vtec
si /d16a8 = twin cam - non vtec
vti / d16y8= single cam vtec
Gli /d16y4 = single cam non vtec
breeze / d15b = carby
well you get the rest, all those motors are fuel injected , minus the d15b

a ZC is a JDM 1.6 DOHC engine making approx 130ps
a D16A8 is an AUDM 1.6 DOHC engine making approx 124ps
a D16A9 is a USDM/EDM 1.6 DOHC engine making appox 124pm

the ZC is 132-135ps - which is 130hp or 96kw meaning there all the same thing pretty much..

just ditch the ol carby engine and ring around for a decent D series engine from a wrecker ..

if i saw this thread b4 i ditched my old D16Z2 Efi engine to the dumps, i would of just given it to you "literally" :)

as the wreckers didnt want anything for it ... hahaha
