D16 4.9 Final Drive Gear box Help!

Hey guys

over the last months i have been getting more interested in higher final drives for gears boxs. But after all reading still not 100% sure on what the exact go is. With the help of the honda site, www.d-series.org (great site!), and found a company in the usa that seem to manufacture these kits for dseries boxs.

That is a link i found for the kit and wondering if i could have a few people opinions on it, or if anyone has even possibly used it?

Now a few tech questions on a higher final drive. From what i have gathered a higher final drive allows you to move through your gears quicker in a sense they are shorter (a higher final driver makes your top speed in each gear lower, but each gear can be moved through quicker and hense acceleration would be improved).

One other question, if too identical cars identical in everyway, including the same power output, including driver except one had a 4.9 final drive and the other had standard box which would perform better.

in the case of a d series engine, the one using the 4.9 final drive would almost certainly be quicker. besides 1st and 2nd (which even then could be shorter) D series gear ratios are horrible. 3rd is way to far apart from 2nd yet seems disproportionately close to 4th. if i was planning to stick with the D series i'd certainly consider a shorter final drive
it doesnt help that i often ride round in a DC2R that uses an ATS gear set either lol

The silver S is running the stock Final drive 4.1 and the red S has a 4.56 FD set. Notice the silver S at the start. It keeps up with the red S and almost gains a little ground, until the Silver S has to change gears. The red S gets through gears quicker and has a different shift point.

If both cars are on the 1/4 mile and reach speeds of over 140km/h, then who is ahead will depend on the number of gear changes and the driver.

haha, this is interesting ,stock s2000 only has 4.1 final drive , i reckon if both car in 1/4 mile, the silver one will win by a little margin.

i'm pretty sure the red one was slowing down at the end hence why the silver one caught up

Thats right the red S was slowing down, u can ask him if u like, hes on S2ki.com. The s2000 has a 4.1 so top end can hit 260km, also its rwd, theres a drive shaft that needs to be considered.

In regards to 1/4 mile, it depends on what ratio u have, with some ratios, no gear change is needed before the trap/finish line,with say a 4.77 a change to fifth is required just before the trap, which can bring the ET time down considerably.

The silver S will only pass the red S once the red has maxed out top speed, as it will have about 30km more top speed.
