High Idle - DC2 Integra VTi-R

Hey Guys,

When my car is first turned on (cold) the idle is really high - between 2.3k and 2.9k revs

Then about 5 minutes into the drive, the revs will drop every 2 seconds to 1k and then up to 2.5 again (when not moving)

Im getting funny looks from people thinking i want to drag haha

Any suggestions? Its booked into Fours n More in adelaide, but not until the end of the month

I keep the oil, water and fuel topped up but thats about it, i have limited technical know how but im big on courage haha

It doesnt appear like its that tight, its quite lax actually, has a bit of play

How do I do that?

EDIT: Just found a DIY for that. will try and report back.

I was thinking maybe its a filter problem and its causing a surge or something

you can buy a spray from most places like auto barn, or super cheap, that is a throttle body cleaner.
it instructs you to take off the intake pipe, and spray at the butterfly in the throttle body, then to start your car and let idle, and spray again.
i guess it helps get all the shit of the inside of the throttle body.

Few more things-

1.The throttle body for a clogged port or improper adjustment
2.The intake manifold gasket for leak
3.Vacuum leaks in general
4.Incorrect engine coolant temperature sensor output
5.Wiring from the computer to the idle air control valve or the computer

hw to clean??

its your IACV or FITV (id say FITV). search on honda tech for the DIY fix.. happened on my dc2 a couple of times, simple fix.

I've searched for FITV in the DIY section, appears to be mostly the stuff i've already printed to look into - IACV and the throttlebody itself

Can you point me in the right direction?

i had the same problem as you i got it fixed at revzone in melb ...the problem was that the throttle body opening was not closed completely when it was idling ..causing air to come in and out =] clean the throttle body and check if the throttle body is completing closed with no opening that should fix the problem

It's actually the valve under the throttle...
The plastic seat for the thermoistat valve as come loose.
Remove the valve, remove the end cap, tighten the seat & add a little locktight...
Put back together.
