		Engine Knocking
		Hi Guys,

 I have a 1990 honda civic with a d16y1 engine, swapped about 4months ago.
Now it has a knocking sound coming from the engine. Suspect its in the big end. Was a slight knock at 3500rpm at slow aceleration. But now its become a loud knock. Any Ideas?

 Thanks

Many things can knock, gearbox, suspension, etc..

Get a mechanic to diagnose the problem and go from there :)

Currently my car has had upgrades.
Was 1990 civic hatch with a D15b4 SOHC Non-Vti Dual carby.

 Now:
Swapped to a D16Y1 SOHC VTI (supposedly outta 97 civ 65,000kms)
 2" Hi Flow exhaust
 Cold air intake
 HD Clutch
Autosmart Vtec Controller set at 5500rpm
 all done in 3months.

Knocking is said to be coming from the bottom end. Mechanic heard it before when it started. Said it could be Con-rod bearing. But seeing it had just come out of warranty they cant do much. Supplier for motor gone bust. So kinda stuck at the moment.

Knocking has gotten worse about 4 times louder even on idle therefore have stopped driving it. Its like a knocking/rattle as if something has come off. Has it in neutral. Clutch was changed about 2 months ago Gear box is fine, was inspected while clutch being changed.

Oil Levels were fine but might have been left too long without a service.
Points to conrod but has anyone else had this problem?

if the noise gets louder with higher rpm, your bottom end crank bearings are about to shit themselves.
i have had the exact problem. put a slice through my sump and a hole the size of a golf ball through the front of the block
it may not be too late to save, but id see if it has any last words

could be a lack of oil pressure?

		Ok Steer,

If thats the case what should i do? and what's the best way to go about it?

 Cheers

take it to your workshop asap, probably even tow it there. see how much a bottom end rebuild will cost, and see if any other damage has been done, and weigh that up vs a new/reco'd/2nd motor.

not much else you can do really, but dont just listen to me, definantly get another opinion

no havent taken it to hanny's because i don't want to risk driving it there.
Cylinder 4 is the only cylinder that has chewed the bearings twice now...
Also noticed a gouge in the crankcase after taking the engine apart again. Looks like we didnt put case on properly or conrod is lower when it comes down. Not sure at the moment.

Cant change engine as im getting married end of this month so finance is stopping me =[

If you have any ideas what this could be let me know thanks
