*IACV Problem [UPDATED PICS]

i have an idling problem... my EG likes to idle between 1.5K and 2K...

i cleaned my TB and it didnt do a great deal...

i went out and bought a 12mm spanner to clean my IACV and it was almost impossible to take the hoses off it...

after almost killign myself taking the hoses off i looked at the lil metal tubes that come off the IACV and into the hose and it was completely covered in rust... and a chalky slime...

i cleaned out the filter in my IACV which was clogged up with heaps of hard black Sh*t... put the IACV back on... leaving the rust i couldnt get off on there still...


what has happened???? why is there rust in my hoses???
and it looks like its been developing over a long period of time...

i did not drive the car for about 3 months... im not sure if that caused anything...

i figured that my radiator has rusted up and my hoses have collected rust from it...

but theres so much slime... looks like that light coloured mud...

can this be fixed???

also would my water pump need changing????


b4 i forget... always on really hot days my car overheats...


wat type of costs would be involved in fixing this issue??? and should i take it to a dealer to fix while i have my major service or is there somewhere good i can take it to????



if anyone can help i'd like to know wat i can do...

IACV is becoming a common problem on older model hondas
EG's DC2 etc
give the radiator a good flush and IACV with carby cleaner.
if that doesnt work change the IACV and get the radiator reco'd

theres so much rust clogged up in the hoses...

might go ahead and buy all new hoses...

that would be a good idea too...
just check the radiator main top and bottom hoses too if these abit of build up there. then u might need to replace it but if it doesnt then u might just get away with a flush :D

the top of the radiator is ok...

but the hoses wen u squeeze em in its kinda crunchie...

so i was afraid it'll damage my block...

also is it a good idea to get a new water pump 2???

When topping up you coolent levels, make sure to use proper Coolent, not just water, as plain water is what rusts and corrods shit up.

Take off your intake pipe and start your car. Let it completley warm up. The idle is at 1500 right? place your finger over the hole inside the throttle body, if the revs drop to normal then your IACV is fook'd. Also as for the over heating, you may have a dodgy thermo switch/thermostat, id put money on that this sludgy buildup has made its way to the thermostate housing causing some blocakages.

My advice.
- Completley Drain all coolent.
- Take out thermo Switch and Thermostate and clean.
- Test thermo switch by using a multimeter on in testing for resistance, then place the tip in boiling water and re check to see if resistance has changed.
- Test thermostate by chucking it in boiling water and seeing if it changes state.
- Test your IACV on another working car and vise versa to diagnose weather your IACV is faulty.
- Install everything back (IACV, Switch, Thermo, Radiator)
- Visually inspect all hoses for sludge, take out and blast clean with hose as nessasary.
- Replace Coolent with "Coolent".

I can provide pictures and a manual if you need it.

Not expensive at all.

Your idling issue is likely to be 2 things, IACV or FITV. But your going the wrong way about it, because u have a high idle, its a faulty valve rather than a dirty valve.

The overheating problem will be your fan switch located at the back of the thermostat housing.

Techniaclly actually is only likley to be one thing. "A vacuum leak", A vacuum leak can occur through a number of things inlcuding 2 "the FITV and IACV."

technically you're wrong, if there was a leak other than these 2 items, it would affect his normal accelerating too

cleaning it didnt solve it

might have to buy a new iacv
