^^firstly.. location??
if the tap trick worked then it's only the brushes on the opposite end of the gear/solenoid thats gone.
easy to replace yourself if an auto elec is willing to sell/make you the brushes.. i think their like graphite or something and only cost like $10 for the 4 brushes.
otherwise a core swap is usually around the $130 mark...
this is what a starter generally looks like inside:
red = brushes
green = solenoid

im located in syd livo area is a honda starter motor generic?? at all btw thanx
dsp26
i wouldn't say generic but common enough.
Give Turbo Auto Spares in Cabramatta a call or just visit em... they do core swaps and store a lot of Honda bits...
after you enquire and they do have one... just take yours out and do the swap... if you buy one off them it actually costs quite a fair bit more.. and you'll end up with a dead spare you can't use.
another comon problem is the solenoid. it engages but doesnt pass the power to the stater motor brushes. the contacts in the solenoid ware out and the plunger doesnt make a good contact.
you can disasemble the solenoid and reapir it your self as well. some starters solenoids that you cannot open up, so you have to replace it instead.
If you have a Mitsuba starter motor I don't think you can get parts for them apart from Honda in which case the solenoid will cost you $400 odd
hey guys i had the starter motor changed and the car still wont crank over still silence wen i turn the key and i had check that there is power going to the starter but still nothing any suggestions why its still not cranking thanks guys
so when you crank it, there is power going to the thinnest wire on the starter motor?
^^ yeah there is i had my mech check it out and still nothing there is power going to the starter and he even tryD cranking power from the battrey straight and still nothing
you got a reco one? or a 2nd hand one?
sounds like that starter motor is ****ed.
lol.
nope brand new straight from the box they even pulled it out and gave it a test in front of me n it was all good
If a mechanic fitted it then get him to make it work...
Checked the fuses?
