Timing Belt making whistle noise..

hey fellas,

not sure if its safe to drive my car n e more, this morning i started my car to warm up the engine.. and i heard a whistle kinda noise coming from under the bonnet..... which was unusual coz i never hear it the other days.. so i popped the hood and took a look.. and the noise appears to be coming from the timing belt...

i have done approx 92,000 kms..

could this be an indication that i need to replace my timing belt asap ??

also assume my timing belt breaks whilst driving.. am i still able to continue driving it for a short time like back home or something?

no u can not drive home and will cost u extra to fix including changing the belt
if i was u since its nearly 100 000km service change the belt now for safety precautions

if you drive like a granny, under normal conditions, belts can exceed 200,000kms.

maybe your belts are just loose.
your other belts.

could be the tensioner.

i had the same not to long ago. however i knew it wasnt the timing belt as it was 50k before it was due. turns out the drive belts (aircon, ps, alternator) were cracked and loose, and were making the whistle. i got them replaced and now its all sweet.

i suggest while you put the car in to get the timing belt changed, do the drive belts aswell seeing as its going to be alot easier to get to them.

WD40 it and it will get temporarily better until you change it,

Timing Belt = the belt inside the engine connecting camgears to crank
Accessory belts = any other ones outside.


If your timing belt snaps, say good bye to your engine. Since the timing will be off, you will bend rods, blow a hole in your piston, bend/break valves and camshafts etc.

If any of the accesory belts go, it's fine to drive home... however if it was the one connected to the alternator, you have a VERY limited time to get home while your battery drains.

depends if the belt snaps at idel or at 6000rpm.

but yes, more than likely you'd bend a valve or so.

if it is the timing belt,change it.its almost at 100000km anyway,which is when belts are recommended to be changed for most cars.Its not worth the risk of breaking the belt when you have to change it soon anyway

i doubt u can here ur timing belt while the car is on lol

does da whistle noisy goes away after u warm up da engine? try spraying some crc on ur drive belts could b just ur drives belts tat r loose ! check first, always start wif little things first, work ur way up XD
