Will changing timing effect tune

Hi, I bought my JDM DC2 a little while ago and have serviced everything that I can do myself including all filter and oil changes. I also did a valve lash adjustment because the car sounded a bit chattery. The problem is kind of fixed but the next problem is to check my timing.

My question is: Because my car has been tuned with a VAFC II, will changing the timing effect the tune? because I want to put my timing to stock (assuming it's out) but I don't want to change the tuning.

Any advise would be appreciated, also let me know if theres more information I need to tell for advise to be given.

What mods (engine) does your car have???

Jeremy, I highly advise against this. A good tuner who tunes any ecu will ALWAYS synch the timing against what he has at the engine versus at the tune. If the settings for the tune in your car have been done with the timing as it is atm, by altering this, u will alter the map and hence run the risk of serious problems.

Spicey, my problem is a kind of rattling/chattery sound, I know hondas sound like this when cold but even when warm my engine sounds a bit loud. As I said, I thought it was because it needed a valve lash adjustment but even after I did one the car is still making these sounds.

Skunk 2 I/M, X-Force Headers and Buddyclub Spec II, ITR Cams, Exedy HD Clutch, Apexi VAFC II.

rattling as in exhaust rattly? can you describe more about the sound and when you hear it?

use a thicker oil

It's kind of hard to describe the sound other than saying it is rattly sound coming from the head. I will record the sound 2moro morning as that's when it is most noticeable (on startup) as once the car has already been running the loud exhaust covers the sound.

I was using Motul 300v Chrono but now I've changed back to stock FEO which is 10W30. I have heard that using a thicker oil than recommended for your car is bad, something to do with the oil journals, either way I would like to solve the problem rather than mask it by using thicker oil. Thanks anyway

is the rattling only coming on when you your under WOT? could be pinging. Try using better fuel, or your tune might need to be adjusted

nah, apart from startup it is noticeable if I accelerate really slowly, climing up to about 6k with only a little bit of throttle. As for fuel the car was tuned on Shell V-Power and apart from a few tanks of BP Ultimate, Shell V-Power is all thats even been run in the car. The sound to me, sounds like something is lose or not properly adjusted inside the head. Should make it alot easier to diagnose once I record, sorry was going to do it this morning but was in a hurry so I didn't have time.

mate that rattling noise is how pinging sounds like. Just ask a mechanic to listen to it

Try check spark plugs for any signs of detonation if it is..

i was thinking maybe the rattling sound is the release fork?, it rattles when its loose.. detonation sounds more like banging i think. :p
