Hondata- recalcitrant distribution. No issues otherwise.
Crome- No issues, commercially or technically.
Hondata- i feel scramed.. especially with hondata aus
Crome- not many tuners.
what about the OBD0 boys
ala BRE
The problem with all 3 is availability of tuners and getting backup if there is a problem because there is such a limited amount of tuners/dealers.
I, personally, would use a product that my preferred tuner uses, not have my tuner dictated by the product.
with hondata it depends on the model, most tuners should be able to tune the s300.
I have always been led to believe that its a black art, and that only authorised dealers can tune them. So this is not the case? Thats good to know. :)

Re James:
Though this is completely off topic re the original post in this thread,
(Who moderates this forum?)
So there is no confusion, James trades under the name Hontatech Australia.
He is the Official Hondata distributor for Australia.
In addition to the import, supply & tuning of the Hondata products, all ECU upgrades sold through the Hondatech dealer network are modified in-house by Hondatech & carry a full warranty.
NB: This warranty is not valid on ECU's previously modified to use an alternative tuning solution.
The dealer network exists to broaden the reach of the end product & still maintain a level of quality assurance that the end user gets what they paid for & the job is done right.
This fact should be applauded rather than derided.
In any case, obviously not everyone is going to be happy with this, but as they say, you can’t please all of the people.
As for who can tune Hondata,
Previously the Rom Editor 3 software used was licensed to the user. (Dealer)
Now days, the software is free & the license, if any is in the components purchased.
Even though, as a rule, (speaking for myself) we don’t supply units un-tuned as there really isn’t much incentive to sell a product you don’t earn any money on.
That said, we do offer trade rates etc to other shops.
What you get from an authorized dealer supplied unit is fair pricing, warranty & tech support. Further speaking for myself; we also guarantee the tune (our work), such that should there be any issues in future, there is no additional charge to have these rectified.
This is of course subject to there being no mechanical changes to the vehicle post tuning.
As for the current products for B & H –series
Regarding the myths about HONDATA products,
The S300 can be tuned by anyone with tuning experience, a laptop & USB cable...
The S-Manager software is free.
You can Download it here: http://hondata.net/updates/?app=SManager&action=download
& if you need an S300 unit, you could just ask.
For S100 & S200
Rom Editor V4 software is also free.
You can down load this software here: http://hondata.net/updates/?app=romeditor4&action=download
NB: The licence is in the Rom Editor 4 serial cable.

Other components required are as follows:
An EPROM programer:
http://secure.transtronics.com/EPROM%20Programmer.html
& for real time tuning,
An EMULATOR (used in place of the chip you burn)
http://secure.transtronics.com/osc/product_info.php/cPath/56/products_id/329
All of this is usless without an S200 unit which you use for datalogging while tuning. This allows you to see where you're at (realtime) when tuning.

In either case with an S100 or S200 system.
The Hondata unit is required as it is the security device to allow the software used to actually work.
Without either of these the car will not run as intended.
Hope this clears things up a bit without starting any sort of shitfight.
Cheers
Adrian
Thanks for that Adrian. That makes a lot of sense and explains everything very simply.
Existing s200 and s100 users can purchase the software (Romeditor 3) direct from Hondata.
However you cannot buy romeditor 3, unless you have bought a s200 with its features added on.
From early reports romeditor 4 although it is "free", you have to buy the cable, it is not worth the upgrade. Also you gain some functionality in some areas, you lose some features that you previously had in version 3.
