no need to compress the springs since you're replacing the entire shock
just remove and replace
You can just pull the shocked and spring out for now. then replace with your new shocks and spring... in your case coilovers.
does his Tein SS come with strut top mounts? not all coilovers have them.
If they do, then its a direct plug and play.
and to answer ur question, no it is not possible. Use only spring compressors. They only cost $20 a pair for the budget ones and $40 a pair for the premium ones. Springs designed to carry over 1 tonne should be treated with outmost care. Good luck
i bought the tein ss without the upper pillow mounts as paying like $200 more for extras that really do nothing to our hondas is a waste.
but yeh so i gotta use the stock ones.
thanks for the info, ill prob get someone to do change it or just go buy some spring compressors.
i remove springs without spring compressors ... lol ask JT
where in sydney are you? you can borrow mine if you like
im in the ryde area.
im about to go supercheap right now to buy sumthing else, prob just pick one up there.
but thanks for the offer, much appreciated.
or better, yet, if u can get a set of second hand upper mounts so u dont hav to take apart ur stock sussy. i wish i did that. makes changing them over so much easier if u deceide to sell them.
so i wouldnt need the spring compressor when putting on the mounts only when taking off??
btw will only EK mounts work or can mounts from other hondas do the job?
well when the tein SS spring is on the tein shock spring cup/perch, does the spring need compressing to get it below the lowest part of the thread on the tein shock? If its compressable by hand (get a mate), then all u have to do is get someone to hold it down and then put ur top hand on.
If resonable force is required, then a spring compressor may be required after all.
still, leaving ur stock sussy as is and getting fresh top hats for your teins is definately recommended.
let me assure u that putting ur stock sussy back together, even with spring compressor is extremely difficult (especialyl the fronts).
i'm not 100% sure which top hats are compatible with EK's...but with so many EKs floating around, i dont expect a shortage of parts.
just something i've run into before, ek4 top hats will not fit into an em1(might be the same case as a facelift hatch) because the shock tower on the em1 has a circular hole while the ek4 had little notches to help the top hat go in the right way
so be careful and make sure it fits before you buy a top hat
