Totally wrong they check all the valve clearances at 40k intervals as part of the service. Valve adjustments if done properly should make the engine more quieter if the they are loose. If they are not adjusted properly they can ride and burn the valves. If the valves are burnt you will have to pull the head off and would be a costly experience.
When you go to the dealer you are paying for the service, knowledge, experience. The technicians are Honda trained and have access to techinical bulletins, proper work shop manuals, honda HDS computer, Honda workshop tools to support for the Honda product.
There are big over heads in opening up a dealership and i can bet you $1M that if Joe blows workshop had overheads as high as the dealers have and charge what they charge they would probly go under in no time.
You get what you pay for and my question to all you Euro owners whether its more worth it to spend $XXX now or $XXXX amount later??

Going for my 20k service this Friday, quoted around $280-290. Will be using my own oil, so should be lesser than that price.
10K = $309 incl courtesy car (Honda dealer)
20K = $159 NRMA liverpool
30K = $165 NRMA Liverpool
40K = probably I wil take it back to the dealer bcs they have to check valve clearance
50K back to NRMA

50k service due, was quoted 170$ from honda..is that good price? and also i put the oil last week, fully drained and refilled with new oil, should i ask them to reduce the price by 30$? is that how it works? also would anyone know how much they would/should charge for machining the discs??
Back to office.... service was completed around 9.00 but they took sometime to fix a rattle in the steering (air bag) area, so got the car back at around 9.30 or so.... Steering rattle was still there, but not so noticeable as previously.
Cost, around $198, plus wheel balancing (not sure got alignment, will have to refer to the receipt).

Guys, i just rang 3 places to get the price on 40k service for my 2005 AccordEuro.
Well, here's what i was quoted
Hanny's 1) 200-300 depending if fuel filter needs changing (guy wasn't sure - do'h?)
Parra Honda 2) ~500 (had to give them vin no to get a quote WTF?! probably they give different quotes to ppl for same thing all the time?!)
Artarmon Honda 3) 550
Any advice?
I'm more inclined to go with Parra Honda as they're not the cheapest and not the dearest (plus close to my home). Anyone had any experience with them? I'd appreciate the feedback here or PM.

At 40k, you don't need to change the fuel filter, but you need to change the air filter and do valve clearance checks.
