edit: interior looks tired as well. Missing S2000 front badges so probably repaired at some point? Tyres look shagged and rear left was low on pressure. Looked like a decent scuff on front bar too.


Probably pretty good for it's price though if you are willing to fix things after purchase.

The service book says to get a service every 10,000KM not 5,000KM

Every 5,000 is ridiculous. It'll need an oil change done at most - which can be done at home.

Honda has always updated my window sticker within a 10,000 km interval

Depends on driving conditions. In the service manual it states services intervals for different things. Severe driving conditions, dusty,muddy, short trips requires more servicing. Honda will want to see you as often as they can :)
I'd be worried if it went more than 20k without a service but preferable 10k oil and filter minimum

Unfortunately I don't have the time at this stage. Going to wait until mid December and if nothing comes up for a reasonable price I will just get one from interstate. Cannot justify 21k for an S2000 with 240,000 kms with a replaced engine. Must be a Victoria tax

How much is a clean S2000 with 133-150kms worth?

Anyone checked out the supercharged one in VIC. Pretty overpriced though.

133-150km and really clean everywhere I'd say ~$22-25k?

I bought my 2000 black AP1 for $25k with 144k on the clock. Amazingly clean though and in great condition. I was happy with the price, didn't even bother trying to haggle.

If you look at cars interstate, you can pick up a decent 2003 with under 100kms for about 23k

Paying over 20-22k for one at the moment with over 150kms I would say is too much. With the prices on carsales for cars in VIC some would beg to differ.

there is one 2003 for under $23k with under 100kkms in Australia. It's in SA, god knows what condition it's in.

there is one other for $23k with 165,000km on it. The rest are near $30k...

Many people have found previously that the cheap end of S2000's are often utter bullshit due to not being looked after. Sometimes you might get lucky.

I would suggest that no sellers are agreeing with you... otherwise you could find one.

Reading this thread as well shows that alot of people have purchased very clean ones with alot less than 100kms for around 25k.
I don't mind paying 25k but I don't think it's justifiable when they are sitting on 150kms. It is simply too high.
Yes there might be supply and demand but all the ones with 150kms advertised for 25k in VIC have been sitting for sale for months.

If you were right they wouldn't be there.

i payed 26500 for one with 33Kkms i think perth is a LOT cheaper with these things.

I can tell you first hand after a good 2-3 months of constant inspections both in NSW & interstate that 90% of the S2000s are in homo condition.

Anyone who knows their S2Ks or actively monitors the market will quickly realize that the REALLY clean ones sell damn fast (0-2 days) even if the guy is asking for 2-3k above market price, this is one car that has WAY more demand than supply (amazingly)

When i was in the market everyone i spoke to were telling me you need to pay a good 23-26k for a clean AP1 most likely past 100kms at first i was really skeptical and after inspecting the first 3 i started to know why. Take it from me if you are really keen on an S bloody hell make sure you pay more for a clean one cause some of the train wreck examples i've inspected made me damn sure i wanted a good one, You really gotta pay to play when you are looking for the S unless you want to end up with blown difs or dud roof bills.

agree, the interior has a lot of plastics that run down the wides of the footwells, and they scuff easily and instantly makes the interior look crap.
the roof elastics going is something you will probably just have to accept as normal unless the person you purchase from knows to change them.

Very insightful. Looking at the ones in VIC. Most of them look to be in pretty average condition and none of them come with logbooks.

Will have to wait a while longer.

the S i bought wasnt even advertised on carsales - previous owner posted in this thread (or a similar one) and within a couple hours it was mine.. i had been looking for about 10 months and this was the first with full service and ownership history and in really good condition. '03 with tan interior, had 68k on the clock and got it for 27k down from 28.5k (probably could have haggled harder but I didn't bother - was pretty happy with its condition inside and out).

I had checked out cheaper options but there was ALWAYS something wrong with the car (which warranted the lower price), such as holes in the roof, signs of previous accidents that were fairly well covered up but owner said zero accident history, prematurely worn-out interior, oil leaks, etc.

But keep in mind this is a 10+ year old car so if you're looking for a "perfect" one.. it's gonna be a long wait and you're gonna need to fork out a little extra than you initially would have wanted most likely.

I think I might just start to consider something else, maybe a bit newer. Could take a long time before a decent one turns up and I don't really want to wait months. Thanks guys.

The patience pays off, well at least for me it did. I'm sure others on here can attest to that too. If you're genuinely keen on getting an S, I would recommend waiting it out and trying your best not to 'settle' too much for a cheaper example. How long have you been looking for?

Been looking for 4 months. I was going to eventually go interstate but I need something within the next few weeks so I'm going to go for another car all together I think. Definitely won't be settling for rubbish.

I have noticed most S2000 I have looked at have scratches on the dash and other interior plastics. Is it common or just unlucky with the ones I have seen.

The wait is definitely worth it! I brought mine within 1 hour of knowing it was for sale as i was sure if it went on carsales it would probably be gone within a day or two, the amount of people who camp carsales for these cars is amazing.

Cant see any scratches on my dash or console but some of the more common things are the seat bolsters will 95% always have some type of wear and tear on it and your usual scratches on the door sills cause getting in and out of the S is truly a bitch :thumbsup:

one thing i would also like to make clear is if you came from a hot hatch and buy an ap1 be prepared for a surprise.
drive it like a FWD or a AWD and you will be hurt.

Since you were looking at an s2k I assume the roadster nature appeals. If so 25-35 is easy Z4/ boxter s money.

Though if you're willing to spend that much why not just go get one of the numerous more expensive but very good s2000s that seem to be on car sales atm. Interstate isn't too bad.

I have tried dealing with a few of the people interstate and to be honest I just want to avoid it.
Not necessarily after a roadster I just liked the s2000. At this stage I am leaning towards a Golf R32

why not buy an 86? ... its practically new which means most of them will have low KMs and be in overall good condition - basically meeting all your requirements.

Yer in would like to see how much it depreciates. Compared to an S2000 or a Golf R32

I don't think anyone really cared about who is the fastest until your master-race ego kicked in.

I test drove a 370z yesterday. It was quite good in comparison to the 86 I also test drove. The 370z I'd actually pretty fast, I was expecting it to be a but slower.
Definitely gives me something to think about.
I did drive a new GTI golf too and don't think I can justify the price.
