I just got quoted $400 for Michelin Energy XM1+ tyres. Any idea what these tyres are like? I have a Honda Civic EK1 and by all reports these tyres are quite good.

Very good, quiet tyre for comfort gentle driving. As with most michelin tyres very quiet and grippy all the way to the wear indicators. $100 each fitted good deal.Quote:

OK, so the Michelin tyres i planned on getting didn't go through. The guy at the local trye centre spun a bit of crap. Ah well, he lost $400. Anyway, went to a local Bridgestone centre and they offered the Supercats that they have for $92/tyre. They also put on offer the Hankook Optimo k415 tyre for $85 each. I think the Hankook tyres are silica.
Ideally, im looking for something that will obviously last, handle all conditions and provides some good fuel economy. We all want that i know, but a tyre that offers a bit of everything between the $85-$100/tyre range would be nice.
Which should I choose and why?

supercats crap tyres for $92, how about their 592's at the b/stone shop? My guess they would be $105-120 mark but they are definately much better.
what size are you running? 185/60R14? 175/65R14? 185/65R14?
I bought a pair of Roadstone for $80 fitted last year for my EH GL and they were great for the $, it was 185/60R14.
Otherwise keep an eye out at bob jane and see what they have on specials, teh XM1+ and A drive are often on specials and can be had around $108-115 fitted in 185/60R14.
Just had a look thru bob jane's current specials catalog which ends june 30, they have A drive 185/65R14 for $115, and 185/60R14 F/stone wide oval for $104.

- Dont know if thats a good price, but i struggled to find my size anywhere!
Tyres are BRILLIANT, BEST so far in terms of Saftey and dry/wet traction.
Falkens used to aquaplane, which is very scary (ey, im talking on steep down hill slopes in a suberb, im not a track driver) - MUCH more grippy in wet/dry
Would definitly buy again, HUGE improvment on the car!

When i first walked in to all the tyre shops/ called em they said anything less then Adrenelines was shit, but after reading forums i specified the KU31's and noticed all the marketing bs go away. So if your on a budget like me (and your not a track driver) these tyres from my point of view are awesome, if not overkill. I might downgrade to save money next time - depending on treadwear.
ps. dont buy falken 512's
I'm using Firenza ST-08 215/45/17. They resemble closely to the Yokohama S Drives and I heard they are a direct copy of the Yokohama. I am pretty happy with the performance the Firenza so far. Excellent grip both wet and dry. Very quiet as well.
The Turanza ER592 tyre is on special this month for $109/tyre but with a RACV card you get $5 off per tyre. The size tyre i need is 175/65R14.Quote:

Go for the ER592's w/out a doubt man, Goodyear Ducaro/Duraplus very old technology and as with most Goodyear tyres bar their F1 series they lose a lot of thier orig grip as they age, the 592 would be a lot more linear as it wears down. You'll be happy with it as a comfort sporty touring tyre.Quote:
