6 months???? I thought you just put that on when you installed the kit. And i respected you for 6 months, taking it back :P
lol. everyone with replica seems to have problems in different areas. Where are your gaps located? I guess you cant really complain. $700 vs $2500
I cant justify buying my GF a $1500 bag. I can when i spend it on my car thou :P
I just got my mugen replica kit painted and now there are bits where the paint is peeling off. Why would this be???
maybe the guy didnt sand it down and just painted on top?
MY new wheels are going on on thursday 20x8.5 status Dynastiy rims... also gettin Dropped more lol
I've installed a microwave and a toaster in my FD
If i have time maybe a shower
curse you double r
lol he got banned...
People, I just found out. The mugen design is DEFECTIVE. I foundout the hard way. Normally bodykits/under spoilers are designed flat underneath. unfortunately the mugen kit has two bumps underneath and as this kit is Low as f*ck the first thing that will touch the driveway is the bumps. Normally with a flat underspoiler/bodykit the pressure is distributed equally but with the mugen kit it causes it to go into one position which in turn causes the bumper extension to bend and flex up, whilst the paint does not. Thus causes the paint to crack from the top where it joins to the body and eventually flake off!!!!
I was told there is no solution to this. The only way would be to remove the front mugen spoiler. I've tried to combat this with inflating my tyres to the max to gain an extra few mms ground clearance.
There are also problems with changing foglights. One can no longer change the fogs normally, for the whole front bumper must now be removed with difficulty and care (and at least 2 people) as the power lead is short.
damn...its a shame u found out the hard way
^pfft... you guys don't even know how to drive low cars if you scrape your FD's with a mugen kit, my friend has a prelude that sits about 6 inches off the ground and I can drive it all day in and out of driveways and bumps without scraping, its all about the angles :P
i wouldn't say it's a defective design; just that it's very impractical on a car designed for daily driver usage lol. mine is already half scraped off but at least can't be seen.
andyhui ---> 6 inches is MASS clearance. That's at least 15cm. After lowering my car half an inch I'd say my clearance is on the legal limit with my tyres pumped up well (10cm).
Shimian --> Yeah I would've sanded the bottom bumps off if I'd known early. If I see any problems with it hitting and screwing up the rest of my paint then I will definitely be sanding it off from underneath. As for the foggies I find it extremely hard to open my fender as the plastic under my wheel well is very hard and inflexible. It's especially hard when the car has been lowered and there isn't much room to play around with.
By going underneath in changing the fogs do you mean removing the fender or a different part? If so, which part?
underneath via fender. You will need to use a mirror to see. You will need to flex a fender in order to put ur hand in. Once its in, its basically by feel. But its much better than going via wheel fender way
i had to remove the whole bumper when i installed the foggies.. the kit is blocking the spot..
thought i might post of the pic of my new rims and LIFT kit.. have to wait for new susspension so we lifted it lol... its like a bus...
they are 20 x 8.5 lol

omg, those look huge  All you need now is a body kit
holy crap those r fat
hahah ur so high
ammuray --> what type of rims are they? Also, did ur Civic come stock with 15s/65 profile? By suspension do you mean you're putting new shockers in or springs?
By drives like a bus do you mean that the turning circle is a lot less tighter now because of the bigger rims and you can feel every pebble in the road so the ride is not comfortable anymore? Are your brakes feeling useless at the moment because they're having stopping your heavy 20s?
I've dreamed of putting chrome 20s as most of the ideal styles I like only start at the 20 inch size but have been very reluctant because of the problems mentioned above (comfort of ride, steering, brakes, cops, insurance)
I think 20's will kill the car's handling/performance unless you do some serious mods to make them fit comfortably.
by bus i ment the car has the same clearance.. handleing wize i have not really had a chance to test it because of massive scrubbing... its gettin put on coilover's.. just waiting for a few places to get back to me on avalabilty .. i dont care what type i just need them asap... they make the car a bit slower... but not much... handling.. i think will inprove once i get it all set up nicely... but it does not really matter lol its just gettin done a show car really...
the rims are Status Dynasity 20x8.5
Yes i did have 15/65 on there before lol
amurray - being 8.5 wide do the rims scrub on the strut tower? i was gonna get 20's but after doing some measurements i thought the tyre or will if i slammed it would rub on the strut - so i decided to get coilovers before rims.
Maybe thats wat the guys with the bodykit need. a lift kit or 20'' so the thing wont scrape against curbs and driveways :P
aren't coilevers just adjustable springs? Isn't it gonna look crap with all that gap if you increase the height too much?
i guess you could call coilovers adjustable springs - but they replace the entire strut/spring package - the standard ones are pretty wide where as a coilover is alot thinner meaning you can have a wider tyre/rim fitted.
once i have my coilovers i dont plan on being high and on 20's - even if it requires a hammer and angle grinder lol
it only scrubs on the guard.. there is heaps of room between the strut and the tyre... the coilovers have alot of adjustment.. so that u can sqweeze it into the guards lol.. they are also hight adjustable.. and will limmit movement so the tyre will not bottom out
^^^
ah ok - the part of the guard its hitting - is that metal or plastic surround?
the plastic... thats all gettin cut out.. and the guards are gettin the phat treatment lol
awesome - im glad someone has done it before me so i know what to expect - cheers amurray
I've bought a new front lip sprayed it at the paintshop. Going to install it next week when i have the time. My current lip is ruined (still on) due to scaping and an incident with my old man. But yeah, I hardly ever scape now. Practice makes perfect..
does anyone know if there's any way to paint the mugen kit where the paint won't peel off? I know with factory painting they use high tech electrons and shit to make it stick to the plastic body but I was wondering if there's some kind of flex paint or anything which can be used so rather than all the paint cracking and peeling from a driveway just one little cm comes off and doesn't affect the rest.
high tech electrons?...man u sound like my chemistry teacher lol
Who said anything about "high tech electrons", its basically a massive spray gun machine thingy that does it... nothing about high tech... just 1 phat machine.
Even with small workshops they just use a high pressure spray gun and its the properties of the paint that will determine if it'll stick to the material being sprayed upon.
Is your existing lip paint peeling...? If so who the heck painted it? Sounds really dodgy.
Even with mine, cracked, "fins" scraped till its nearly flat :(, and still No Flaking occurs..
Fd1m?
Fixed ^.^
lol i scraped my bumper in unsw carpark yesterday.. sigh.. went down at about 14km/h and that was enough to scrape it on the ramp ><... guess i gotta be more careful but i'm so glad i didn't buy genuine lip kit! phew.
rofl i go down it @ <10km/h and at times it scrapes....
ESPECIALLY when it has the grooves on the ramp!!!
>.<

I can feel it being considerably weaker compared to the stock height. It doesn't absorb "shocks" in the road where in my mum's car (recently replaced shocks) its so soft although it might be also because of the springs... and when driving the road sound is pretty loud.... (if u get what i mean..)
Although i don't have king springs, i think i have dodgy ryder springs from pedders.. (dad got them done for me awhile ago)
I thought it was normal to hear and feel all these knocks and noise when lowering your car on springs...
But then again you do track your car, yours may wear out much faster.
i didnt get my rims from jax, i got it from tempe...did i mistype or summin?soz..
Joe --> did ur paint begin to crack and falloff when u scraped your mugen kit? I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to leave my kit on unpainted as the paint won't stayon when it scrapes so often. Still looks ok, the body of the car looks better with the kit on than without. I'm also going to leave my 17/45/215 mags on and not go 19s because a 35 profile tyre would be way too rough. The ride is compromised already by lowering the car a little and going from 65 to 45.
R u refering to me? If you are, i dont have a civic anymore, im more here to make fun of JaCe. But i used to have one similar to Jace but without the kit. You should PM him about the paint issue, but i think everyone is refering to the bottom of the bumper scraping. Not the top, sideskirts or the rear.
and yes. dont go 19, it will be very rough.
^ Yes he did.
Have any of you guys had warranty or servicing issues with aftermarket shocks?

here you go...one of OH traders..
http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=86755
will have pics on as soon as kit is painted and fitted, and if by then i sort out seat brackets and whether they are ok to put on my car they will be in them too lol
if not ill just unbolt stock seats "rest" the buckets on the stock rails (lol) and pretend they are in to take pics :P
i was on high street melb.. i stopped to see this 50+ year old ladie in a black vti and a mugen kit.. lol.. and she was trying to do a three point turn with like 18's.. lol... funni as.. she took awhile..
omg.. i got honked yesterday by this old woman driving a blue yaris. i was coming out of uni, but with the mugen kit on, the speedhumps are just unbearable so i have to go quite slowly and angle the car a bit, and she kept honking! single lane road (it's the one onto high st; when you drive from the quad) and about 6 speed humps? non-stop honking... and to top it all off, after the final speed hump is a set of traffic lights to turn, she overtook me on the <20m stretch to a red light which was quite dangerous and un-granny-like! sigh.
that bitch...
Any one with FD2 17" wheels please PM if you would like to sell
^ getting rid of the 19" chromies Frost? Finally got sick of the crappy torque with those heavy rims eh?
