u got a mate???hook us up yo...been wanting to get the dam kit...but cant afford paint!!!
yeah.. im wondering your mate charge you how much on paint? i heard my friend said it normally charge 400-600 for full set paint.. =(
yeah, seriously paint is an insane cost.. its like more than the kit itself almost.. but uhm i'll have to arrange a few things with my mate, its actually my mate's dad but yeah haha i'll see what i can come up with.
so uhm anyone got recommended kits to purchase? like.. ebay sellers to buy from and stuff.
yes, the clip will break if you use a screw driver to pry the original chrome H out. you can take it out without breaking those 2 pins if you take out the whole grille and work from the back. the 2 pins on the chrome H are actually held in place by circular metal 1-way fasteners - real tricky to remove these fasteners without breaking the pins!
going back to the "pry the chrome H out with a screw driver" method, the 2 pins with the fasteners will just fall inside the grille leaving the 2 holes where the pins of your new red H will come in. you probably won't need to place fastener for those pins as the red H emblem actually has a full adhesive backing so it's quite secure just by sticking it to the grille.
yeah that's right. but i've seen this ABS replica mugen kit a number of times in ebay ending with the $399 price. i'm getting tempted to buy it... anybody here who bought their kits from this ebay seller?
yeah im quite tempted to buy it too, its about 1/2 - 1/3 the price of other sellers around. But as i said before, quality is the main issue i guess. Although people say ABS and PP material are similar, guess its just a matter of the supplier.
thanks for the info jpestrada115.. waiting my emblem to come and will DIY on my car.. hehe.. so the rear emblem also comes with two pins as well?
anyway.. be careful about the seller selling in real ABS or fibre/FRP.. because the price is too cheap to believe.. even in Malaysia.. the price wont be that low.. anyway.. good luck.. =)
i asked this ebay seller a question about holes required. here's his response:
"NO YOU DO NOT REQUIRE HOLES AND DRILL ON THE BUMPER AND BODY TO FIT THIS KIT. THEY COME WITH RUBBER STRIPS TO TAPE THEM ON. WE ALSO RECOMEND YOU PUT SOME SPECIALISED GLUE. WE CAN PROVIDE A TUBE OF THE GLUE FOR 25.00. YES WE CAN POST TO CAIRNS AT 100.00 EXTRA FOR POSTAGE. THANK YOU AND HAPPY BIDDING
- stylish.body.kits"
i requested photos showing the fitment of the kits from the seller.
his ad also says that local pick-up can be arranged. anyone there from NSW who would go the distance (Monterey NSW) to trial fit the kits for fitment? :D if only i was in NSW i would!
really no holes? this other seller just said the side skirts need holes drilled, otherwise perfect fitment wont be secured. damnitt this is comfusing now.
i think the kit shud have some clips to clip on the bumper.. and support by some 3M tapes and the rubber lining is for cosmetic purpose to cover the gap between the kit with the body and bars.. but it said no holes at all.. is quite confusing.. anyone who have mugen kit with PP or ABS can explain this? =)
i recently DIY-installed my red H emblems so it's quite fresh with me.:)
yup, the rear emblem have 2 pins as well. you just have to remove the 4 clips on the boot lid insulator (if you have one on your car) and push the 2 pins from inside. the rear chrome H is secured in place by 2 pins and thin strips of 3M tape at the top and bottom but should be easy to remove. once you've removed it and removed the remnants of the adhesive, you just have to push the red H pins into those 2 holes. its fully backed with adhesive as well. remember to clean the surface where the new emblems will stick into with alcohol so that the adhesive will stick to it firmly.
i'm not surprised with the $399 price of that ABS kit really. in the philippines, one can have a ABS replica mugen kit for just around $600 painted and fitted. we just need someone from NSW to trial fit those kits.:D monterey is just 18km from sydney anyway.
here are 2 more replica kits that i saw in ebay.com.au. replica type-r kits for FD this time.
this one includes F&R bumpers, side skirts, plastic mesh grilles for front bumper, front grille and wing:

this one don't have the grille and wing:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-HONDA-CIV...1%7C240%3A1318
looks like mods for FD are getting more and more here.:) give it a couple more months and we'd probably be getting more mods at cheaper prices.:D
Regardless of what material, you will need to drill holes for better security. Tape and glue is not strong enough.
