When it comes to engine oil and oil filters and fuel filter I have never used OEM on any of my Honda's and they all worked fine!!
When it came to gearbox oil and power steering oil/clutch oil etc I used Honda OEM oils.
i use penrite as well
going good =) 2000 ek1
I use oem.. but might be heading towards a HAMP oil filter... any good?
I have them and would use them if Honda didnt make the same size as well and is avail here, they used to use em in Toowoomba Honda yrs ago but dont these days as too many leaked, so now they bring in the blue ones at a loss and sell them for 17 bux a filter(so they say)
Using other filters is fine. Z79A is the code you need for the oil. All Ryco filters come with warranty and they will even cover your engine if the filter is faulty etc etc...
They also sell replacement for fuel filter.
Having said that i use OEM Honda filters, just for piece of mind.
Fuel filter is changed at 80,000, so its a good idea to change it now. Its not hard at all. I think all you need is a 19mm spanner,10mm spanner and a 17mm spanner.
Remember to change all the copper washers too and don't overtighten the bolts.
You can pretty much take your pick of oil as long as it is is within the oil range specs given by honda. Since the weather is getting colder now you might want to go something thinner. Generally 10W-30 is good for most conditions.
least with the Honda filters you have the luxury of using their cap tool for easy removal, the rycos are a pain to remove if put on too tight and for what is saved it's hardly worth it...
I use whatever is cheap. Flavour of the month is hamp filters which got for 1/2 price of Honda, and Edge 5w-30 oil which I got for $30
it's half as cheap due to it being half as good...
Im using Ryco oil filter/Castrol edge and honda OEM air/fuel filter & NGK sparkies
I just changed them all recently, cost me about $150. Now getting over 650kms a tank
what were you achieving before?
if you're changing your oil filter every 5k, doesnt really matter in terms of overall performance, but the Ryco range is shit house as they arent designed for the car, theyre too bloody wide and short and imo a waste of money, lol
Id prob pay
$10 for an oem filter (I buy the ten packs)
$40 for oem oil
$40 for the fuel filter
$20 for oem Denso plugs (at the dealership)
$30 for air filter, but now I use a K&n as they are easier to clean and maintain as the service pack is $20 new and cleans a good 10times or more, the k&n eventually pays for itself and fits better than oem too (which surprised the hell out of me)
so all up I pay
$110 as I already have the K&N air filter that I simply clean off, which is something everyone should have :D
I was getting around 500kms before which wasnt that great for a 1.6 engine.
What do you mean by Rycos arent designed for the car? It looks exactly like the standard oil filter
IIRC, i payed:
$40 Castrol edge
$8 Ryco oil filter
$45 OEM fuel filter
$20 NGK sparks
$35 panel filter
