what i was thinking, is that low tyre pressure at the front is for more grip and better launch.
The back are higher because it has less drag so less surface on the ground which reduces 1/4 time.

^^ spot on!
learn something new everyday ! cheers mate
yeah id like to strip it hardcore but its a mates car so just gonna be removing spare tyre and few other small bits... anyways thanks guys and ill post up some results later...
14.3 Stock out of a Type S? What year? I had a Type S and the best I could do out of the stock engine without any mods was 14.9 with a 2.2 60ft.
Tyres do make a difference depending on track conditions. Some tracks are stickier than others. I found that settings revs at around 3,100-3,400rpms and feathering it fast guarantees you from a lot of wheel hop/spin and allows you to build up before 2nd gear shift. My best time with a CAI was
2.1 60ft
14.3@95mph
No other performance mods done. I did find that stiffer springs, poly engine mounts, and practice helps a lot.
Results.......
well for a first time out for my mate whos never been before to wsid before was pretty good with plenty of room for improvement and potential.....
front tyres were on 18psi and rears we forgot to inflate..
Car was in full trim with only spare tyre removed and floor mats ...also half tank fuel
1st run was 15.0 at 94.9 mph...with 2.4 sixty footer due to 2000rpm luanch lol.. not bad for his first time although good mph showed solid 14's were doable
2nd run was better launch at 3500rpm although missed 3rd.. 2.25 60ft..... 14.9 at 94.8mph
3rd run was taken by me.. ive been before so i wasnt nervous... luanched the car at about 3800rpm although slipped the clutch to quick and got a 2.30 sixty footer and 14.8 flat at 94.7mph
4th run was another 14.8 at 94.9mph..... with a bad 2.35 60ft
5th run was by another mate who had never been down the strip and got 15.2 missing 3rd gear and a not so good luanch
Main thing was fun night and we know what the car is capable of
Its got a 14.5 in it no problems.. just got to get new front tyres as they dont have much tread which was causing the wheelspin too much
car may also go better if the rear muffler was conected.. think it lost some torque
cheers
oh ok...i knew that it's to keep the rear tyres firm and keep the load towards the front wheels...but i also thought it was to reduce drag as not as much tyre surface area is in contact with the ground...which is why pro's use thinner wheels/tyres at the back
btw, thats not a bad result for first time damo46...tell your mate to keep at it :)
thanks man..it definately had a mid 14 in it tho the front tyres were bald...but yeah now that hes got some experience.. he might be putting a gruppe m intake and some tein coilovers in setup with the help of phil which would be a nice simple setup for him
