I'll keep an eye for them. I want some that are relatively 'comfortable' for daily driving.
Hopefully I can pick up some second hand ones in good nick for a good price haha.
I just sold mine for 1k lol 1 month old <2000kms travelled haha
Hey guys.
I've recently purchased a GSi, and I'm considering removing the stock wing. (Wing? Spoiler? I don't even know what it qualifies as...)
What are your thoughts on this? Would a nice clean look be better, or does the rear end look too plain without some sort of spoiler?
What's involved in plugging and painting the holes? I have some touch-up work that needs to be done on the front bumper, so I'd probably get this done at the same time.
Cheers.
Definitely remove it, gives the car a much cleaner look. The stock wing that came on our cars is quiet honestly pretty lame.
As for the holes, you have two options:
1) Go down to Autobarn/Supercheap and get some rubber grommets to plug the holes. This actually looks surprisingly neat, and will be what I'm doing on my DC2.
2) Or you could eliminate the holes altogether by tacking a small metal plate to the underside of the holes, and the bogging up the holes. Then obviously while your in the paint/panel shop you will need to get your boot resprayed. Alot more work, but ultimately looks better.
I recommend getting grommets for your car, only costs a few dollars compared to hundreds of dollars. Hope that helps!
Thanks for the help, mate. I don't suppose you've got a picture of a boot with grommets in it?
With those, I can always throw the wing (or a new wing) back on if I like, so it might be a better option, at least to see whether I prefer it without after a few weeks.
Awesome, thanks mate! I'm definitely going to de-wing it. Asked the girlfriend what she thought, and she said it'd look better without it. She knows nothing about cars, but could still tell that the stock wing looked pointless.
I've heard of people using primer and touch-up paint on the grommets to match the body colour, just so they blend in a little more. Mine's silver too. What do you guys think? Paint them or leave them black?
Also, I've heard of people removing the rear wiper, too. Would anyone recommend/advise against it?
Yup, painting the grommets will hide them abit more, that's what I'm going to do :)
As for the wiper delete, that's more personal choice I guess. IMO the rear wiper is practical and I find I always use it in the rain. At the same time, it does stick out like a sore thumb when the wing is gone, and would really finish the ear end of our cars off nicely.
Aesthetics vs practicality... What's more important to you :P
Nice. I think the painted grommets will end up looking alright.
Hm, well, my old Pulsar didn't even have a rear wiper, but the rear window was much more upright on that. Actually, I just looked at a picture of it, and it turns out it did have one, I just never used it! The hatch is more horizontal on the Teg, though, so I'm not sure how annoying it would be not having a wiper. It would just look so clean without the wing and wiper... I'll have to have a think, haha.
It's handy having somebody with the same car doing the same things at the same time!
vvvtec - did you keep the wing? i just got a gsi and i think it looks a bit naked without something on the back end...
