Retro fitting HIDs

Both Steve and Thanh are correct in their individual respects. All the points Stevo put forth are 100% correct and ppl should be wary when purchasing any P&P kits... however Thanh is also correct in his comments regarding the DC2 projectors and the reliability of good quality kits.

it only uses the headlight connector of 1 side to the relay to switch on the ballasts and headlights.

ah ok thanks mrthanh... if thats the case then thats the good 1.. cause there are some out there which utilises both headlight plugs which means thet are running straight off the headlight wires.

Ok guys....

ive got a kit on my dc2....and i dont think they come straigth off the battery....ive had no trouble at all yet.....but will these sooner or later fry the wiring.....what should i do??

Yup so i think in your instance.. your ballast is plug directly into the oem headlight plug for the left and right headlight correct?

If this is the case then, if your hid lights up then its ok... but it will prob. last for around 2-3 years.. If not if might run ok now.. but when u put alot of load on the car and drawing more current than is supplied down the headlight cables... which i think are 20 gauge (dont quote me on this) it will burn.. or which ever the cable is weakess..

Yea i think thats right....the wires were just cut and then plugged into that ballast for both sides then....the wire goes to the actual projector......ill try and get a pic tonight.....

What can i do bout this??

buy new wiring and go striaght from the battery, perhaps using a resistor or something if you are worried about ecess current.....

JRC:.. yeh takes some pics of the unit and post it up. In order to wire it up correctly you will need, a relay, a diode, fuses, wires (cant remember what gauge), and other lil. parts. There are instructions on the web which can help you with constructing a proper harness for the HID.

you dont need a diode. just make sure that u check the polaroty of all the connections before you turn them on.

I would think its cheaper to buy a kit which comes with complete wiring harness than do a retrofit?
