How much will be shaved?
I heard 0.010" = .4 of a point which = 4hp & 4 lbs of low end torque.

im not shaving the head just skimming it
going to use a thinner head gasket for a tad more compression
Ah I see!
still trying to figure out which head gasket to use tho...
at first everyone said to use a standard D16y8 head gasket but than some people said to remove the middle layer
now im reading articles that say there are several versions of the D16y8 head gasket ... so confusing!!!!
I believe it's not worth changing for the 1 point increase, not worth the risk.
Stick with the stock HG.
And shave 0.010" off :)
whats the difference between shaving the head and using a thinner gasket?
wouldnt they acheive the same results?
im not keen on modifying a head gasket - i just want to put one straight on - but i would like to use one that bumps up compression a bit
Using a thinner hg is the cheap way to bump up comp. but U are getting headwork so really its best to do it properly and not risk running a thinner hg.
That's the bottom line aye.
On d-series.org they work out what compression they want then the parts and work done to achieve it but that figure 0.010" is the standard amount to shave off a d-series head but check that out offcoarse..
so when i send it to the machine shop instead of skimming ask for 0.010" off and than just use a standard D16 headgasket?
I don't think there's anything wrong with just using a Y8 HG. If I ever have to change my HG I'm going to use a Y8 then go maul everybody with my bumped compression :D
I believe so but not 100%
To be 100% sign up if your not a member to d-series.org and ask. They are very helpful if U ask right...Great guys.
Tell them your set up first then ask the question instead of the whole question being drawn out..know what I mean? :)
Different setups I would imagine require different amounts to be shaved off but I remember 0.010" being a standard for the d.
d-series.org is where U will get that sort of info!
i would not tamper with the head gasket, and the standard one work quite well, i'd take the .010 off. it will need to be skimmed anyway.
yeah iv been poking around on D-Series for a long time now - its where i get all these crazy ideas lol
i would just slap in a D16y8 headgasket - but its very confusing on which part number will yeild the bumped compression because apparently theres like 3 versions of it
