Sounds like "manonastick" just has a SRI to me peteju
Would this be suffering from heatsoak more than stock airbox due to the bare Pod filter?

IF the pod is exposed in any way in the engine bay, its pointless having a pod sitting in it. But if the pod is enclosed withing the air box, than its essentially the same as any other oem filter, think of DC2 air box, pod filter withing a enclosed plastic box.
Than adding a CAI feed to the box is a better option imo if u cant afford a proper cai system. But one of the best feature of this, using oem box with cai feed, is the no need to worry about rain, which might = hydro lock
I dunno what to call this but the car was like this when i got it and still is like this

I dunno if a proper CAI will be worth it as im doing a engine swap somewhere in the future next year. It doesn't give more kw/hp but better response right? i maybe actually enjoy that than . . . hmmm
ohh were both in the fast food area pay kinda sucks but hey can't complain cause its better then nothing right?
now back on to topic my friend has the same setup as your pod in his n14 pulsar it actually makes quite alot of difference with it the sound and better air flow and also response but as mugen_ctr making a pipe to flow more air into the box would be a good diy/idea to do for more cooler air and since its not a proper cai wont cause hydro lock
No. Vtec activates a third cam lobe, which opens up the valves further, and for longer. It doesnt open more valves.
vvt is just a motor on the front of the cam that adjusts at what point the cam opens, not how long it opens for, or how much.
Use google, its a magical thing.
I think the Vtec on some d-series may activate a 4th valve trism, From what i read some models came with an Econemy version of Vtec where they only operate 3 valves per cylinder untill vtec engages the 4th. Not sure about this as i havent seen one myself but i just remember reading about it in some forums, Might of been called "VTEC - E" If i recall correctly.
Edit: http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VTEC#VTEC-E
If i were you, i would try and retro fit the cover back on if the filter fits inside.
then put a cold air feed below the box where the old resinator used to fit.
i thought about this setup, but cbf playing round it incase i get defected i still have the oem box.
so instead this is what i did.
DC2 Box with a Comptech Filter with Cold Air Feed

As you can see i have not fastened securely the box yet.

Cold Air Feed - next to the Foggies.

By doing this, i still got to maintain a OEM look (well apart from the 3inch intake arm and the blue 45deg coupler.
but works great and i feel the barrp barrp barrpp barrppppp
"VTEC just kicked in YOOO!!
