I used the three months that were on the Vic rego. When it expired I had to get a blue slip here in NSW, not just a pink rego slip because it was change of State as well as rego expired.
Didn't seem to bother the people behind the counter at the local RTA! The guy I bought the car from filled in all the details on the back of the Vic paperwork for disposal and our RTA sent that down to Vic with the Vic plates. I got new rego and new plates. I didn't have to pay the transfer fee just rego. Win!
