A static charge can set off the airbag, that is why they have a Short Connector integrated into the Inflator connector. So when the inflator is disconnected from the SRS ECU the two inflator wires are shorted together. If you attempt to measure the resistance with a multimeter you will get a dead short. If you fiddle and bypass the Short Connector and measure again there is a good chance you will get a face full of airbag. Older SRS Inflators don't have the Short connector in the connector but provide the red short adapter.
Multi meters send out a weak a voltage with a weak current to measure resistances, some meters use higher voltages that other. Best not to probe the inflator.
