Has always been garaged so that counts quite a bit to the condition of the paint/body and also has its oil and filter changed every 5,000 k's
Oh yes forgot to mention, your name sake "brand" of tyre also helps the old Civic roll along the road !

Looks mint! To your question though, thermostat will not cause coolant levels to drop. Check all your hoses for white crusty buildups which indicate coolant leaking and then drying.
400k is a solid stint. (Y)
Thanks Sp33.....the hoses (though original) have no crusty build ups. It just that from time to time it decides (like a couple of nights ago) to fill up and pour approx. 300ml out of the over flow tank. The oil filler cap and dip stick are super clean so I don't suspect a head gasket ???
Only way to know for sure would be to get it tested. Checking the oil cap and cooling system for signs of exchange is only going to show you results if the thing is completely fecked.
Compression and coolant exhaust gas level tests are cheap and quick for most local mechanics to do.
Dropped into a local rad specialist for an impromptu visit and after telling him the issue I popped the bonnet and straight off he felt the top hose and said "it's soft". I said "don't tell the wife" as it's her car lol......anyway he took the old original rad cap off and the rubber seal was torn and perished. As I'm an original parts nerd, where can I get a Nippon Denso or similar 0.9 or slightly bigger cap to suit an ED Civic i.e. not a bland "Tridon" cap ????
