U can stick them directly onto any crank case. Its just a breather for the PCV system. If u get a heep of blow-by, then u use a catch can to help separete the air from oil. otherwise u can just attach one of those guys to ur crank case and let it vent to the atmosphere. Note: if u do get blowby with the breather, expect some oil in ur engine bay.

what he said exactly. altho venting causes a DEFECT
-
Hmm..does that mean that it removes excess pressure in your engine oil? I cant imagien engine oil spewing out to your engien bay though
-
the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) system is built into all cars. From factory it is ducted straight into ur intake manifold. U can mod it with a 'cool' breather if u wish..
Yes air does come spewing out, ive got a good video of a turbo b16 with HUGE blowby. This usually indicated advanced o-ring wear though.

IS that the little pipe that goes to the air filter? Something like a fat straw
-
yer from ur valve cover to ur airfilter or throttle body.

Its attached at the end of the crankcase breather hose. This hose usually feeds back into the intake manifold and as a result reduces the combusting efficiency slightly. Hence people use such a breather to keep the oil vapour out of the chamber.
Note though, that it is defect worthy as it vents to the atmosphere.

Oooh! Okay! Competely understood now. Thanks guys!!

What you need is one of these:

You can either connect it to the valve cover or inbetween the PCV valve and intake manifold.

Okay...another question guys
An oil catch tank. Their applications are most suited for a Turbo car right? Either that or a larger capacity N/A car.
So my puny Civic does not need it?
