Honda's RRP is $9000 for the hardtop option, is a special order and comes with the standard 3 year warranty. However, you can secure it for approximately $6500 - $6900 with some negotiation work. The hardtop weighs approximately 10KG added onwards.
Mugen has 2 options, the full-fibreglass or the full-carbon. Prices start from AUD$6000 or so for the fibreglass variant and close to AUD$9000 for the carbon variant. This does not include shipping/freight/customs clearance charges. All up, either will run you no where far from AUD$7500 ~ AUD$11000 not including finding someone to fit it for you. Unless Honda fits it for you, you're gonna expect to find problems lining it up properly.
So, the Honda OEM hardtop option is still much cheaper compared to either of the Mugen variant. Honda Australia does not sell you a hardtop stand like US/UK/Japan, so when the hardtop is removed, you'd simply need to find storage space. A rare sight to begin with, Honda sold less than 10 hardtops over the years from 99. All Honda hardtops are compatible and is the same throughout the years as well.
Official Weight-In Specifications
OEM Aluminium Hardtop / Glass Demister - 10 KG
Mugen 100% Fibreglass / Plexus No Demister - 10 KG
Mugen 100% Carbonfibre / Plexus No Demister - 7.5 KG
the softop basically is open then u put the hard top on
but the hardtop is too big for the boot
so if u got the hard top on and the sun comes out and its an awesome day then u're screwed
have to go home and take the thing off
i wouldn't get 1. theres a 2nd hand 1 for sale on www.quicksales.com.au for $1200 or something for those who are interested
its yellow in colour
Warranty? who cares about warranty, what can seriously happen to something that has no mechanical value at all? And as for regidity.....even without the hardtop it still just as rigid as with the hardtop. This is for the street, and what driver and what road can you go in order to feel that 5% extra rigidity of the "entire chassis"? Maybe on track you can.Quote:

As for prices from Mugen (shipping not included), are as follows:
Fiberglass = $3033AUS
Carbonfibre =$6530AUS
These prices are directly from Mugen website.
So I dont know where your numbers came from.
We simply hang our hardtop on the garage wall during the warmers months, and during winter it stays on the car. We don't drive our s2k that much there are other cars in the garage to drive on a daily basis. And we didn't pay anywhere near 6900 for ours new from Honda a couple of years ago;)
cant justifty a hardtop for that much money to be honest..
id rather pay a few less grand and get new roof with glass window :P
you still retain the softtop anyway do you not so you can always use that in the event of bad weather.Quote:
