Big fan of the ghetto screwdriver method. Just make sure that you don't screw up and belt it into any importants. Like your sump. I hear tell you want your sump hole free.
You can do a filter change every second oil change (i.e. change filter 10,000k's) no worries, it's actually what is recommended anyway, but i figure while I'm down there draining the oil I might as well lash out the $8 it costs me for another filter and change it with the oil every 5,000k's instead.
Do NOT use the screwdriver method.
Its for dire straits ONLY ( stuck in the middle of now where , with a screwdriver and a oil pan).
Hot oil CAN gush out of the "hole" made by a oddly place scredriver.
The scredriver can damage the inner thread of the oil guide etc
Walk/drive to any car shop or kmart/woolies/big W and buy the right tool for the job and SAVE on oil changes because you are doing them for the rest of your cars life :)
And also to add. When installing a the new filter, use your finger an place a film of oil on the rubber seal on the new filter. Do not overtighten it. :thumbsup:

Does Honda Service tighten the oil filter by hand? I'm not sure they do.
I did an oil change myself the other day, and even with an adjustable oil filter clamp, i could not remove the oil filter. The previous service was performed at a Honda Dealership. I ended up replacing the oil without replacing the filter. Since i change the engine oil every 5000kms, i figured that the filter could last another 5000kms.
I plan to get my local mechanic to loosen the filter for me prior to performing the next oil change.
That's because Honda filters are too small for the adjustable filter clamps. You have to buy the extra-small adjustable filter clamp (costs lots more than a normal sized filter clamp) or get a honda firter wrench (a cap-like thing with a hex fitting at the end).Quote:

I change oil filter and oil every ~3000 miles (4828 kilometers). In my opinion, its important to change the oil filter as well because you want to remove and contaminents and particles from the oil system. Spending ~$8.00USD for an oil filter, you cant go wrong.
On the topic of Oil Filters, is it the same to use Repco compared to OEM. Not cos of cost, but mainly it's a pain in the ass to leave work early just to go to a Honda dealership to buy a $20 part. When I can buy it at Repco when I buy the Oil.
why don't you just use the FEO honda oil as well then?
you can always go to a aftermarket place and ask for gen parts, some places do stock em.
Why don't you buy like 4 filters at a go? Then you'll be set for 2 years. Then go and pick up your favourite oil whenever you want. Filters don't have an expiry date as long as they are still sealed in the plastic wrap.Quote:
