Prelude Longevity
Hey, I know that this is an oooold thread...
But it's interesting!
I bought my 4th Gen VTiR last year for its longevity.
It had done 154,000Km and I'll be taking it for its 200000Km major in 2 weeks time.
A previous post rightly said that a 2nd hand Prelude will last depending on how it has been serviced and driven. And totally agree, because I bought my car on checking logs, services etc as we all would; but I also checked mechanic's opinions who all gave Preludes (and other Hondas) glowing reports over Mazdas, Toyotas, Nissans etc. For instance, at the 2nd inspection of the car, I got it up on a hoist and had bushes inspected etc. and they're still like new. The technician said that Honda made those bushes as resilient and strong as my other car (that's made for racing).
So I bought it!
And V-Tech for longevity? Need I say more?
Cheers, T

kms arent not suppose to be an indicator of engine wear.
I would expect the a normal H series engine should get 600,000kms.
My old 4th prelude has 300,000kms and is still going very strong. My friends 4th gen is raced alot, and has 300,000 too.

I think that Honda motors are better than most in regards to longevity. It annoys me when I see some people worrying about 150,000km or so being too high etc. I agree with the previous posters about proper servicing which is a very important factor. I had a 3rd gen prelude which I took up to 350,000km before I sold it. It was running perfectly, it had needed a new clutch and an alternator, thats about all. I now have a 5th gen prelude which I have taken from 130,000 to present 206,000km. I intend to keep it going up to well over 300k if all goes well.
